Hedone: Closed Beta Expanding to Include North America

Acony has announced that the closed beta for its MMOFPS, Hedone, will be expanding in the next several weeks. Players have been testing Hedone on EU servers for the past several weeks. The player pool will be expanded in the EU and NA servers will be opened to closed beta testers as well.

Star Supremacy: Going Live Later This Month

Indie developer Barbily Games has announced that its flagship title, Star Supremacy, will hit live retail status later in October. The browser-based title is currently in its beta phase of development.

General: Sony Hit Again in New Security Breach

A new security attack has been launched against both the PlayStation Network and Sony Online. Over 100 million accounts were targeted, with nearly 100k breached in the latest attack on the gaming giant. The attacks spanned October 7-10.

Lineage 2: New Hybrid Revenue Model Coming

NC Soft West has announced that Lineage II will adopt a hybrid revenue model. While few details are known, the Lineage II team said that the new hybrid system will "feature an order of magnitude greater than those of a conventional subscription model, and creates a new way to play."

Rift: Ashes of History Live Event to Start October 12th

The newest Rift Live Event has been announced as starting on Wednesday, October 12th. The Ashes of History live event will pit players against the slaves of Laethys and Maelforge and see an increase in fire and earth rifts across Telara.

Elsword Online: Gamepad Now Supported

The Elsword Online team has sent word that gamepads are now officially supported for play. According to the press release, the manga-inspired "beat 'em up" title will now give players a "more console-like experience" with the gamepad support.

Rift: Ember Isles Now On PTS

The first new zone to be added to Rift is now live on the public test server. Called the Ember Isles, the area is set to give level 50s a run for their money with more difficult mobs and bosses. YouTube user "LyricalBrit", aka Warb, has posted a nice video of the Ember Isles from a Defiant's perspective in the game.

Quoting from a new interview with Gazillion Entertainment COO David Brevik, "MMOs are in a rut." According to Brevik, Ultima Online was a unique take on MMOs but that since World of Warcraft's arrival on the scene, most MMOs have followed its pattern rather than the trailblazing one set up by UO.
