E3 2011: Six PC games dominating the show

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 05:27 PM PDT

It's easy for PC gamers to get disheartened at E3. As Tim mentioned to John Carmack yesterday, we don't have our own conference to look forward to. The Xbots, PS3-cool-kids, and Nint-infants/oldies each have a few hours dedicated to them each year.

And silly as the conferences are, it makes me sad that we haven't got one. Give a console gamer a live stream and they'll instantly start developing new memes based on how crap the presenters of the conference are. The presenters themselves will stroke the rounded edges of their new hardware and talk about "expanding demographics" until a montage kicks in.

Our conferences would be about our infinite storage, ludicrous resolutions, and cutting-edge tech. Our memes would be photoshopped better, and our hardware pointier and more dangerous-looking. But most of all, our conference would be about games. Here's what I'd stick in our first montage. Remember, there's still plenty of E3 we haven't written about yet.

Battlefield 3

By now you've read our preview and watched the trailer. Trust us, Battlefield 3 is a PC game through and through. Tim was surrounded by intimidated faces when we settled down for yesterday's hands on. Why? Because they'd never experienced the true sensitivity of WASD. They'd never popped a man's head with the left mouse button.

Let's talk basics – DICE are showing off the PC build because it's spectacular. No-one has seen the console versions yet. We've got eight minutes of in-game single player action. Expect a beta in September, and the full game October 25.

Fary Cry 3

This deserves your PC's power. Far Cry 3 combines the glorious jungles of the original Far Cry with the massive open world of the second game. The hint of an anti-aliased foliage with bloom edging in all over the place has already got my PC grunting. Graham has already seen the damn thing running too. Read his preview here. We've also got in-game footage to share. We'll have more on Far Cry 3 before the conference is over.

Trackmania: Canyons

Trackmania is a wonderful thing. It's easy to think of PC gamer's favourite sandbox as a budget release, but Canyons screams AAA from the start of the trailer. Click up there to see Tim interviewing one of the devs live on the show floor, here for a brand-new trailer, and here for our preview.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I know how excited you are about Skyrim. Just like us, you want news, previews, screenshots and interviews. So that's what we're giving you. Also, you may not know, but when Tom Francis looks at the trailer of an unreleased game, things go a bit Neo and the Matrix. Read his in-depth analysis of the latest footage if you don't believe me.

Hitman Absolution

The man in black is back. Eidos are so excited about Hitman that they flew Tim to an island, and made him listen to a woman singing before they'd let him write his preview. Then they showed him how Agent 47 smashes bongs over people's heads. According to Tim, Absolution is "A step above what we've come to expect from Hitman." You can check out the latest teaser trailer here and Tom's What we want from Hitman: Absolution piece here.

Rage

There's something reassuringly frank about the way Id's John Carmack spoke to us yesterday. We might not understand a lot of it, but Carmack said it. Listen. Rage is packed to the brim with "megatextures" – sounds like a PC game to us. We know it will look, and (if we're being cheeky) control better on PC. We'll have more on Rage in the next few days.

Maximum PC Video: Get Your Tablet and Smartphone to Work With Your PC

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 05:06 PM PDT

We've heard predictions that we're already in a "post PC" world, but that's not always the case. Senior Editor Gordon Mah Ung walks us through two cool uses for tablets and smartphones that are definitely not post PC. Adobe's new Photoshop CS 5.5 build adds connectivity for support for the premier photo editor and the company has introduced several apps to let you get a taste for what you can do.

Meanwhile, Cyberlink's PowerDVD 11 now sports the ability to use your smartphone as a remote control device or to even stream photos and videos from your mobile device to your HTPC via Wi-Fi. Check it out in the video below!

US Senators Seek to Crackdown on Bitcoin

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 02:31 PM PDT

btcBitcoin is a new digital currency traded over p2p connections that is essentially untraceable and not connected to any bank. This has made it a favorite of the tech-literate crowd, but two US Senators are looking to crackdown on Bitcoin after reports that it is being used to buy illegal drugs online.

Senators Charles Schumer (D, New York) and Joe Manchin (D, West Virginia) have written to Attorney General Eric Holder and the DEA asking that action be taken to crackdown on the "Silk Road". Silk Road is an online exchange that deals in drugs and Bitcoins. Since the Bitcoin transactions are anonymous, and Silk Road is accessed through Tor, authorities have no way to track down users buying drugs.

The DEA has stated that it is, "well aware of these emerging threats and… will act accordingly." The sticking point being that there may not be an avenue of attack. Many of the Bitcoin exchanges where the currency can be purchased are outside the US. Even if the currency were outlawed, it is possible that shell companies could spring up to handle the actual transactions. Since the Silk Road itself is accessed through Tor, it could move as often as needed to avoid being shut down.

One user on a Bitcoin discussion board recently said of these actions that the government "can't stop a peer-to-peer service." Yeah, that sounds about right.

E3 2011: Mirror’s Edge 2 to be powered by Frostbite 2?

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 01:23 PM PDT

In a Game Trailers interview at E3, president of EA Games, Frank Gibeau all but confirmed that EA is planning to make Mirror's Edge 2, adding that it will likely be powered by Battlefield 3′s Frostbite 2 engine.

"We haven't killed Mirror's Edge," Gibeau told Game Trailers. "We're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on."

When asked whether Mirror's Edge 2 could use Frostbite 2, Gibeau said "you'll see that combination, I'm sure."

Gibeau has spoken publicly before about the possibilities of a Mirror's Edge sequel. He's previously said that a lack of multiplayer and problems with pace and difficulty held the first game back. On the matter of lessons learned from the first game, he had this to say:

"If you're going to be bold with that kind of concept, you need to take it as far as it can go in development. You have to execute, you have to spend more time on a game to ensure it's polished, and you need to have the depth and persistence of an online game."

Talk of Mirror's Edge 2 will be music to the ears of fans of the first game. Mirror's Edge's startling cityscapes are still some of the most memorable locations in gaming. The idea of seeing them reincarnated in the Frostbite 2 engine lights up a huge neon "YES" sign deep in my soul.

E3 2011: Battlefield 3 hands on preview

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 01:04 PM PDT

Battlefield 3 is the best looking game on the showfloor, I think. But the good news is that it plays well; it's familiar enough to instantly make you fall into some of the same routines: shoot, spot, move to cover. But it has improvements to the feel of the game that make it a significant step up from Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

First, some facts and changes.

All four classes are back, but there are slight modifications to what they can do, The assault class has been given some of the medic abilities (although there was no clarification on what they were are). Support class now has a bipod on which they can mount their machine guns. And there's a suppression mechanic for support gunners which means that if a machine gunner lets rip even on a player behind cover, their combat effectiveness will be diminished. Engineers now have a flashlight. Sucks to be an engineer.

The multiplayer demo is a Rush mode – taking place in the middle of Paris. It opens in a park where the enemy have installed anti-air rockets. If the attackers take them down, they'll move on through a subway, and then out into the Paris streets. What impressed me was the variation in each level. Whereas Bad Company 2 levels can feel very one-note, here, the progression was clear, and it made it more fun.

In play, I had a ridiculous amount of fun, first tooling around in an APC lobbing shells at the defending enemy, then switching to a support gunner. The weight and heft of the machine gun is really, really exciting; and spraying bullets down a crowded corridor is extremely satisfying. Particularly when it pops up with 100XP – ENEMY KILL each time someone walks into your rain of fire.

There were a couple of interesting tweaks to movement in the game, too. Now, players can slide and mantle ledges, seeing their legs jump over the obstacle. It reminds me of how Faith would jump over a crate or box in Mirror's Edge. Really nice. Second, the knife has been tamed everso slightly – now you can only grab dogtags from back kills with knife, but it's also a flick knife, rather than the wall wreaking monster from Bad Company 2.

Also confirmed but not shown: Team Deathmatch, and Conquest from launch. And it will come with a new feature called Battlelog, which will track stats and kills and interesting facts about your play all the time. You'll also be able to customize your dog-tag, a la Call Of Duty.

Oh, and jets are back. Wheeee!

It looks great. And it plays great. And it was playing on PC. Much to the chagrin of the various retail buyers I crushed. Sorry about that, retail buyers.

How to Use Dexpot for Free, Windows 7–Integrated Virtual Desktops

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 01:03 PM PDT

The next best thing to an extra display

In a previous how-to, we discussed multiple monitors as a great tool for increased efficiency. However, sometimes multiple displays just don't work in a certain environment. Fortunately, there's still a way to get some of the efficiency benefits of having multiple desktops without needing two displays: virtual desktops.

Dexpot, a free program that lets you set up multiple virtual desktops, integrates with the Windows 7 taskbar, offering live previews of your desktops and jump-list support.

1. Set up Dexpot

Dexpot's installation procedure is about as easy as it gets. Just download the installer from www.dexpot.de and run it, making sure not to install the toolbar that it tries to bring with it.

Once it's installed, run Dexpot, and check out your new virtual desktops. You can switch between desktops by clicking the Dexpot icon in the taskbar and selecting one of the other virtual desktops (above). If you want more or less than four virtual desktops, you can change that and other basic options in the Settings menu, which you access by right-clicking the Dexpot taskbar icon.

2. Navigate Your Desktops

There are several ways to navigate between your virtual desktops. The easiest is what you've been doing already—clicking the Dexpot icon and choosing a different desktop. To move a program from one desktop to another, you can right-click the program window, and then use the Dexpot context-menu item to send it to whichever window you want
(below).

Unfortunately, both of those procedures are on the slow slide, negating some of the efficiency benefits you gain from multiple desktops. To get the most out of Dexpot, you need to learn to use one of the other methods for navigating desktops. Here are three different ways to navigate:

Hotkeys:

The fastest way to change desktops is with hotkeys. By default, use Alt + the number keys to switch between desktops, and Alt + Shift + the number keys to transfer the currently active window. You can rebind those actions, and find even more in the Controls section of the settings menu.

Mouse Control:

If you want to be able to switch between desktops without using the keyboard, you can turn on Mouse Switch in the Controls section of the Settings menu. This allows you to switch between desktops by moving your mouse to the far edge of the screen.

Full-Screen Preview:

A function of Dexpot allows you to see all of your desktops on screen at once, arranged in a Brady Bunch-esque grid (above). If you've forgotten where a window is, this is the fastest way to find it. You can launch it quickly using the hotkey Win + F3.

3. Keep Your Desktops Organized With Rules

One of the hard things about using multiple desktops is keeping your applications sorted properly. Dexpot makes this a little easier by allowing you to set up rules that define which desktop certain applications live on. For instance, here's how to make it so that Outlook always stays on Desktop 2:

1. Right-click the Dexpot icon and choose Desktop Rules.

2. Click the button marked Assistant.

3. Give the rule a name, and click OK.

4. Under Condition 1, click the drop-down menu to select "Executable is," then click and drag the crosshairs icon onto the Outlook application. This should automatically enter outlook.exe into the final input field. Click Next.

5. For the Action 1 drop-down field, select Move, and then choose which desktop you want Outlook to move to. Click next, and then Done.

By learning to use the rules system, you can give your virtual desktops structure, which keeps them tidier and you more productive.

E3 2011: 8 Skyrim Shots & Initial Thoughts

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:40 PM PDT

E3 started properly just yesterday, and the first game I saw was probably the one I'm most looking forward to: Skyrim. The presentation Bethesda is showing behind closed doors is similar to the seven-minute video they released yesterday, and to the one we wrote about in PC Gamer last month.

What we hadn't seen in action before, though, was horsies. Riding horsies.

When I spoke to Todd Howard in April, he had said that Bethesda weren't yet sure that our equine friends were going to make it into the game. Horsies in games had come along way since Oblivion, and they wanted to make sure they weren't just hovering motorcycles with legs.

I can confirm: they are not. The new horsies look great. They have the same new animation system as the player, obviously, which means that in third-person they shift from a trot to a gallop smoothly and beautifully. Also, the one we saw looked oddly chubby.

In Tom's analysis of that trailer, he rightly questioned Todd Howard's comment about not scripting the dragon fights. Case in point: the demo began its climax with the same double dragon battle, and even with the same giant-kidnapping. At least some of this must be scripted.

On the other hand, the second frosty dragon fight didn't end nearly as quickly. In the presentation, he kept swooping further away from the player, and even with Storm Call causing rain and lightning to swirl around it, it took a little longer than planned to hit it and bring it down. It was the kind of brilliantly awkward moment you want the developers to experience when they're demoing a open-world, unscripted game. On the other hand, awwwwkward.

Overall though, what I saw was the same as what you've already seen, and my thoughts are the same as Tom's: SKYRIM.

E3 2011: What could Dust 514 mean for EVE Online’s PC gamers?

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 12:23 PM PDT

I have to admit I was a little hesitant about how much CCP would have to talk about the PC-side of EVE Online at my E3 appointment. Their big news at the show is the launch of their big PS3-exclusive shooter, which ties into the EVE Online universe, Dust 514.

So when I sat down with a group of devs from CCP, including Senior Technical Director Torfi Frans Olafsson, Producer Thomas Farrer, and CTO Halldor Fannar, I didn't expect a lot of convincing answers – but what I found was a pack of contemplative, exciting developers dedicated to the classic EVE Online PC experience.

Dust isn't just a console game, it's changing how EVE Online players will interact with each other in the universe in a major way. Dust players will share the same chat channels, will be able to join the same corporations and be involved in the same rivalry and backstabbing shenigans that grabs gaming headline news every month or so. The update will obvisouly change how soverignty works over planets and over systems. Dust players will be able to duke it out on the ground to help corporations resolve their rivalries over owning a specific planet. PC players won't be micromanaging their console shooter counterparts, but they will be able to buy mercenaries at top dollar, or train their own ground troops within their corporation to control their planets on the ground.

Farrer told me that while playing EVE Online on the server where DUST was being tested, he saw some activity on a planet as he was flying by it in space. He got close to the planet and looked close, and he see the combat raging below, and got a sudden message in his chat box: "Hello!" It was the Dust player on the surface of the planet who had seen his ship above him in the sky and sent a message of greeting. Let me state that in simple terms: a PC EVE Online player flying a space ship could see and communicate with a PS3 player shooting on the ground of the planet.

But PC players won't be sitting idly by as the grunts on the ground duke it out for control. Spaceships will be able to bombard the battlefield from orbit, but they'll have to duke it out with the other ships that will be looking to bombard from orbit as well. But the ground grunts don't have to take it lying down. They'll be able to fire back at orbitting ships with massive anti-ship turrets on the battlefield. EVE players already have some amazingly epic-sized space battles (in the past, they broke the servers when they had over 15,000 player-controlled ships in one sector fighting)–I can only imagine how much more exciting and massive they'll be when they're happening in tandem with a ground assault on multiple planets' surfaces in the region.

It'll be tempting for EVE players to feel like they've been cheated out of an expansion because of Dust's PS3-exclusivity (at least for now), but they shouldn't. There's a whole lot to look forward to as an EVE Online player, with expanding corporations, increasingly complex economic and military battlefields evolving for you to duke it out over supremacy. Plus, if all else fails, you can just try a classic EVE move: bribe the enemy's ground mercenaries into throwing their match in your favor!

E3 2011: New Smash Bros Coming! Um, Someday. Need a Job?

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 11:30 AM PDT

It's hard finding good work with the economy in the toilet, but we hear Nintendo's looking for a few good men (or women) to help Mario punch Link in the face. The way the company's drumming up interest in the opening is a little unconventional, though. After Nintendo head Satoru Iwata announced that Smash Bros is coming to the Wii U and 3DS during the company's E3 press event, reporters asked when the game would be released. The answer? Um, we haven't actually started on it yet. Know anybody looking for work?

"Honestly, at this point, we shouldn't be announcing these games to the general public," Kotaku reports Masahiro Sakurai, the designer of Smash Bros, as saying, "But since we need to assemble developers for the game, we made them public."

Sakurai flat-out said that nobody's even working on the game yet, then hinted that the game might not even hit store shelves at all – it depended entirely on whether or not they could get capable staff to toss their hats into the Smash Bros ring.

HP Pavilion dm1z Review

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 11:09 AM PDT

What netbooks were meant to be

We're not living so close to the cutting edge here at Maximum PC that we can't see the utility of a no-frills, budget portable that's capable of performing all the common day-to-day computing tasks. Whether it serves as a secondary machine for work on-the-go or as a primary PC for a school-age kid, we get it. It's the same need that netbooks were meant to fulfill, if only they hadn't fallen short of the mark. What netbooks taught us is that today's common computing tasks—which include things like gaming and high-def video playback—require more power than an Atom processor and integrated graphics can muster.

AMD's Fusion offers a more viable option, as evidenced by HP's Pavilion dm1z—an 11.6-inch portable that starts at $450. The notebook's E-350 chip comprises a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and a Radeon HD DX11-capable graphics part on the same die. Compared to the 1.6GHz N270 Atom in our standard zero-point netbook (a Lenovo IdeaPad S12)—well, there is no comparison, only horrific carnage. The N270 gets slaughtered by more than 50 percent in content-creation chores and three-digit margins too embarrassing to repeat in our gaming tests. Instead, we measured the Pavilion dm1z against the very best Atom-based netbook we've tested to date, the Asus 1215N (reviewed December 2010). The 1215N is an outlier in the category with a 1.8GHz Atom D525 (a dual-core with Hyper-Threading) and Nvidia's Ion discrete graphics chip. At the time of its review, it was priced similarly to the dm1z config reviewed here.

Given the typical audience for this type of notebook, it's not too surprising that access to the RAM and drive compartments is not easy or obvious.

The dm1z doesn't run away with the win, but it does surpass the 1215N in the majority of the benchmarks, most notably by nearly 45 percent in 3DMark03 and 50 percent in Quake III. Before you start objecting that Quake III hardly counts as a game these days, we'll point out that the dm1z's score of 38.5fps in Quake 4 isn't too shabby for a notebook of this size and price. What's more, Call of Duty 4 was playable at the notebook's 1366x768 native res.

The only benchmarks that the dm1z ceded to the 1215N were MainConcept, where the latter's four processing threads gave it the advantage, and in battery life, where the 1215N's Optimus technology was able to disable the discrete graphics and eke out an additional hour of juice in our video rundown test.

While Fusion will never be as power efficient as an Atom chip, we'd still happily exchange some battery life for greater performance versatility. That versatility also includes HD video playback, both online and via a Blu-ray player. The dm1z doesn't come with an internal optical drive, but an external BD combo drive is an option for $130.

What does come stock are a glossy screen, a full-size island keyboard, VGA, HDMI, three USB 2.0 ports, a media reader, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Build quality feels fairly solid and the screen reclines a full 180 degrees on a seemingly sturdy hinge.

All and all, it's a well-rounded value package, although we're surprised it's not actually a bit cheaper considering that there's no overhead for a discrete graphics chip. Nevertheless, if you want a small, inexpensive, versatile notebook, this is it.

GamersFirst has revealed new plans for APB Reloaded to come in the next few months.

A new gameplay mode, called Clan Warfare, will let players battle in death-matches in Clan Districts (and supports up to 20 players), and 4 versus 4 matches will also be allowed in the world’s regular open world districts. A new matchmaking system will use a quality-score to help players match better against skill rating.

Also coming this year will be the Asylum District, which will introduce a new mission mechanic featuring close quarters combat, and a new Racing District for players to race their custom vehicles in a variety of matches.

GAMERSFIRST REVEALS APB RELOADED FEATURES ROADMAP AT ANNUAL E3 EXPO
Global Free2Play Games Publisher Discloses Upcoming Game Improvements

Irvine, Calif, June 7, 2011 – The world leader in Free2Play® massively multiplayer online games, GamersFirst (www.gamersfirst.com) today announced a host of new exciting features for its wildly popular cops versus robbers MMO "APB Reloaded" currently in open beta testing.

APB Reloaded is a Free2Play massively multiplayer online third-person shooter game taking place in the modern-day fictional city of San Paro. In a state of near anarchy, players choose between two factions, Enforcers and Criminals, in order to control the city.

During this years' Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, GamersFirst released details on upcoming matchmaking system changes, the new Clan Warfare player-versus-player (PvP) combat system, the new asylum district and the new racing district all targeted to be in-game late this year. Currently in open beta testing, APB Reloaded is also being showcasing by GamersFirst for media in booth number 8001.

"Continuing the 'wide open communication' policy we have with our community, this roadmap hints at completely new ways of playing the game," said Bjorn Book-Larsson, Chief Operating Officer of GamersFirst and CEO of Reloaded Productions Ltd. "APB Reloaded is a player conflict-driven MMO, so while the original open district missions with four-player groups was a good starting game mechanic, adding large scale ranked clan fights and completely new mechanics like racing enhances the game's long term appeal and also helps it reach a wider audience. The improved matchmaking system will also provide a better experience for players of all levels."

New Gameplay Mode: Clan Warfare
One of the first changes will be the addition of the Clan Warfare playmode, which pits between eight and 20 clan members against enemy clans in ranked clan death-matches taking place in designated Clan Districts, where the goal is to reach the top of the clan ladder and dominate the city clan rankings. The Clan Warfare system turns Criminals and Enforcers into modern-day gladiators fighting for supremacy, and acts as a nice complement to the pick-up group-style" 4 versus 4 matches played in the normal open world districts, for those who want larger instant-action clan-based gameplay.

Updated Matchmaking System
Going hand-in-hand with the recently released skill-based rating system, the upcoming changes to the matchmaking system will use an improved "quality-score" system to find the best possible matches. In addition, the new district recommendation system will slot players into districts based on average skill rating. The end result is a balanced, powerful PvP match system that reduces the chances of gamers being grossly outmatched, and provides constant well-balanced games for hours on end.

New District: The Asylum
Late in the year the team will add two new district types to San Paro's three current districts. First up is a close-quarters combat district with a new mission mechanic called the Asylum, an abandoned facility just outside the city limits at the center of a raging battle between Criminals and Enforcers. While Criminals want to repurpose the area as a nightly rave spot to strengthen the crime factions, the Enforcers are focused on shutting it down and using it as a staging point for limiting criminal activity in the neighboring Paro City, using any force necessary.

New District: Racing
For players that want to take a break from the fast-paced gun battles of San Paro, the Racing district offers a different kind of explosive action. Players will be able to jump into their own custom-designed vehicles and race head-to-head in a variety of death-race style challenges, where they can win races while blowing up their opponents in creative ways. Designing and customizing the most effective death-race car have never been this much fun.

In the world of San Paro, Criminals and Enforcers battle in an open-world environment to control territories, commit or stop petty crimes, and gain notoriety within their own organizations. Be it on foot or from the driver seat, APB Reloaded melds player-on-player combat within the immersive world of a city on the edge of total chaos. Powered by Epic's Unreal 3 engine, APB Reloaded features a robust set of customization tools second to none, providing gamers the ability to create the exact look of their in-game avatar, character symbols, clothing and even customize cars they drive.

Players can get instant access to the APB Reloaded open beta by creating a GamersFirst account, downloading the GamersFirst Live! game downloader and installing APB Reloaded. Once installed gamers choose a side and then create customized characters that fight over control of San Paro. Edge of Night coming to Eudemons

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:29 PM PDT

The latest expansion for Eudemons Online, titled “Edge of Night,” has been announced for a release this June.

The expansion will add a new class, the Vampires, adding a fourth class for players to choose from. The details of the class are still being kept as a mystery, as is any other additional content that may be published with the expansion.

Eudemons Online is published by TQ Digital, which also publishes Conquer Online, Crazy Tao, and The Warlords.

TQ Digital announce Edge of Night expansion

New vamp-filled update heading to Eudemons Online this June.

Longstanding online game publishers, TQ Digital have announced an exciting new expansion for their free-to-play MMORPG, Eudemons Online. Titled “Edge of Night”, the expansion promises to suck – in a fiendishly good way.

A mysterious new Vampire class is ready to invade TQ Digital’s popular free-to-play MMO, Eudemons Online this June, jumping out of the shadows with the release of a brand new, blood-soaked expansion.
Dubbed “Edge of Night”, the expansion promises a massive change to Eudemons Online and its world of Cronus, thanks to the introduction of the new class and its impact on current game dynamics.

The fourth class to enter the Eudemons universe, the Vampires have been hiding in the shadows for many centuries, gradually increasing in power and honing their skills. But now, with a new darkness spreading across Cronus that threatens to consume even them, the vampires are forced to show themselves and join the fight.

A notorious paradox of secrecy, everyone knows about Vampires without really knowing anything about them. True to this form, details of Eudemons Online’s new vampire class are as hard to confirm as the existence the blood-lusting creatures themselves.

Vampires are often described as posh, pale creatures with dark eyes, attributed to the drinking of blood and lack of their own. However, TQ Digital were also quick to point out the vampire representatives from recent movies and our own history; from the future predicting vampires of Twilight; to the real-life vicious Counts and Countesses that terrorised us in the past.

What changes will EO bring to the vampire? Will they be glamorous representatives of the blood-sucking species; or will they be more like the infamous real-life Countess Dracula (aka Elizabeth Bathory), a notorious historical figure who enjoyed blood-orgies and torture in her castle.

Players of the popular MMORPG are already speculating on the game-changing dynamics a magical class like the Vampires will bring to Eudemons Online. Will they dominate the world with their mysterious skills? Will they fight for good or evil? Will they be friends or foes? Only time will tell.

One thing is for certain – the equilibrium enjoyed by the current classes inhabiting the world of Cronus: the Mage; Warrior; and Paladin; will be changed forever.
How will a Vampire defeat the Warriors powerful Chain Chop; will the Mage’s famous range attacks be a match for the eerie speed of the undead; and what of the Paladin’s ability to revive the dead -will this be needed?

TQ Digital have promised that the Vampires will command a strong range of powers, pets and skills, and will be releasing previews for all players – along with exciting giveaways – in the buildup to the Edge of Night release.

The team dynamics of Eudemon’s Online, and the world of Cronus as we know it, will be changed for good when the Edge of Night expansion is released this June.

QUEST ONLINE – ALGANONTM EXPANDS!

Phoenix, AZ – June 7, 2011 – Quest Online, LLC today makes several E3 announcements.

It has been over a year since we launched the 2.0 generation of Alganon under the free to play (F2P) model. Since that time we have been focused on improving the game as well as building the Alganon brand. That trend continues with the following E3 announcements. The first Alganon expansion, Rise Of The Ourobani is in development and scheduled to be released by the end of the year. ROTO is chock full of content, new features and most importantly, it introduces a new playable race as well as player housing! More information is available on the expansion's micro-site at http://goo.gl/fZn2A.

As part of our commitment to provide the best playing experience to our international gamers, we have provisioned European servers for Alganon in Amsterdam. These will be available by the end of June and we also expect to have localized Asian servers available shortly. In addition to this, we will be combining the two US servers into a single powerful server this month in preparation for the release of the ROTO expansion and additional worldwide servers later this year.

Continuing our plans to expand the IP, two games based on the Alganon lore are in development by third party partners. Both non-MMO games, developed using the Unity3D game engine, are supported by micro-transactions and also allow the transfer of perks to the Alganon MMO game. Both games will be simultaneously released on PC, Android and iOS platforms in the coming months. More details will be revealed later this year as the release dates draw near.

Continuing our marketing push for Alganon, we have inked a publishing agreement with DC Comics for the development of a comic based on the backstory of the Alganon ROTO expansion. Written by Ricardo Sanchez, the comic features efforts from Jon Buran, Matteo Guerrero and others. It will be available later this year for free through various publications including the iPad as well as through DC Comics conventions and related outlets.

More detailed information about all of these Alganon developments is available in the latest Alganon newsletter at http://goo.gl/pNpBN.

With a large Star Wars MMO on the horizon, it's easy to forget that there are two other Star Wars-related online games already on the market. Star Wars: The Clone Wars Adventures is an online lobby-based game geared for the younger audience, but if you are a Star Wars fan, it's fun at any age. The game has lightsaber duels, starfighter simulations, blaster ranges, and much more.

Massively visited the Sony Online Entertainment booth at E3 to get a glimpse of what is the latest and greatest to come out of this multiplayer online experience. The Senior Producer of Clone Wars Adventures, Todd Carson, was there to greet us and show us a few of the newest minigames that litter the gamescape. Jump past the break to see what he had to say and witness the latest trailer for the Clone Wars Adventures.

E3 2011: BioWare shows off The Old Republic Belsavis raid

Are you curious about endgame in Star Wars: The Old Republic? GameTrailers has a couple of E3-related videos that you'll want to check out, both of them focused on raiding content in a galaxy far, far away.

First up is a 10-minute clip featuring an interview with BioWare's Gabe Amatangelo as well as various bits of new footage. Amatangelo tells us about a raid that takes place on the outer rim planet of Belsavis. The clip centers on a prison facility in an icy environment, and we get a good look at the approach as well as some combat inside the complex. Amatangelo also talks a bit about raid difficulty levels before reiterating that SWTOR will release in 2011 (though no firm date is given).

The second video expands on some of the snippets in the interview clip, and BioWare shows us a minute and 20 seconds of action from the Belsavis raid. Check out both trailers after the cut and let us know what you think in the comments!

Massively's on the ground in Los Angeles during the week of June 6-9, bringing you all the best news from E3 2011. Whether you're dying to know more about Star Wars: The Old Republic, RIFT, or any MMO in between, you can bet we'll have it covered!

The Secret World's Innsmouth Academy profiled

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Earlier this week Funcom treated us to a blurb about The Secret World's creepily atmospheric Atlantic Island Park. Today the official site has been updated with a new reveal centered on Innsmouth Academy.

By all outward appearances, the academy is a private high school for rich kids. As per usual in The Secret World, things aren't always what they seem on the surface. Innsmouth Academy serves as something of a prep school for children of the Illuminati, "and a degree from Innsmouth Academy opens many doors for a budding magus and occultist."

The school has a lengthy history, and originally opened its doors in 1798 before being rebuilt three times as a result of three different disasters (including the opening of a dimensional portal in the elementalism lab). Head to the official Secret World website to read more about the school and its faculty.

Enter at Your Own Rift: The no-quest challenge

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 09:00 AM PDT

OK, I know you all probably want to talk about the news that addons are coming to RIFT, but the truth is that it's not that big of an issue for me. My feelings on addons are that I'm for them if they enhance the game and encourage player creativity, but I'm against them if they reduce players to mere statistics in the eyes of others (GearScore) or are absolutely necessary to tackle the game's content.

So if you feel passionate about this topic, I give you leave to vent more about it in the comments below, but as for me and mine, we're going to look at quests today. More specifically, not doing them.

Now, I generally like quests. They give me a feeling of accomplishment (as I am fond of checking off items from my to-do lists in real life), the stories are occasionally interesting, and they give nice boosts to leveling. But I've come to realize something interesting about RIFT that might run under the radar of most: Quests are superfluous to the game. Well, at the very least, they're optional and not the mandatory tasks that most modern MMOs make them out to be.

So I had a thought. What about playing RIFT without questing at all -- taking on a "no-quest challenge" of sorts? Is it not only possible but fun too? Hit the jump and we'll examine this from all the angles.

Ask Cryptic hints at shared Foundry functionality for Star Trek Online, Neverwinter

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:30 AM PDT

There's a new Ask Cryptic in town, and this month's Star Trek Online update finds producer Dan Stahl fielding a plethora of community questions that cover a wide range of topics.

While many of the questions (and answers) are straightforward one-liners, Stahl does go into a bit of detail about STO's Foundry functionality. He mentions that the content creation tool will be getting a round of bug fixes as well as new map hookups (including Star Fleet Academy) for the library. Stahl also says that Cryptic's Foundry team is currently hard at work on Neverwinter's player-generated content toolset, and the fruits of its labor will eventually be seen in STO as well.

"One thing I continue to stress is adding the ability for more acting and blocking features so that players can create their own dramatic scenes," Stahl explains. Head to the official STO website for the full text.

E3 2011: EverQuest II's Dave Georgeson in 3-D

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 08:00 AM PDT

If you're going to fly, why not fly with a little style -- and in 3-D? At E3, we were able to grab some facetime with Dave "Smokejumper" Georgeson, EverQuest II's executive producer, as he showed us the next dimension of MMO gameplay while we checked out some of the new aerial races in the game.

"We wanted to do a little more with the flying creatures than to go from Point A to Point B," Georgeson said, referencing EQII's aerial races. "So we put in these flying race courses, which is a good test ground for showing off 3-D."

It's one of those things that has to be seen to be believed. The 3-D effect while flying is, in a word, awesome. The user interface is up close, your character is somewhere in the middle, and the environment is in the background. The effect is very noticeable when you turn, which happens a lot while flying.

Hit the jump to hear more of Georgeson's thoughts on 3-D in EverQuest II as well as a get tantalizing sneak peek at the game's future!

E3 2011: World of Tanks teases clan wars trailer, new screens

World of Tanks may not be the biggest name in the E3 house this week, but the free-to-play action MMO's clan wars trailer nonetheless brought some big guns to bear on the annual gaming convention. The 40-second spot features a handful of tanks careening across what appears to be a scorched landscape highlighted by fiery fault lines.

As the camera pulls back, we get a good look at a stylized campaign map of the European theater over which World of Tanks' clan wars metagame is fought. Wargaming.net has also released a bunch of nifty new screens to celebrate convention week, and you can get an up close and personal look at World of Tanks' highly detailed hardware in our gallery below. The Daily Grind: Do cross-media tie-ins interest you?

Posted: 08 Jun 2011 06:00 AM PDT

Trion Worlds is taking on a big new project with Defiance, linking a television show's ongoing plot developments with an MMO. In many ways, this seems like an ideal mix -- players who care about the ongoing story can enjoy the show, and the rest of the time you can just play the game without being shoehorned into a developer's pre-scripted story. On the other hand, this also means that you know your player character is unlikely to be a major player in the game's storyline. You'll just be some guy (or girl) without any sort of major impact.

City of Heroes tried a similar tack with the comic book that launched with the game, showcasing several player characters in each issue and trying to marry an ongoing story with an MMO structure. Do you like the idea of tying together passive and active entertainment in this way? Are you excited to see how Defiance manages it? Or do you want your MMO's story contained within the MMO itself rather than tied to the needs of a television series?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

E3 2011: A look at Runes of Magic's upcoming Redhill Mountains

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 08:00 PM PDT

Runes of Magic is on the floor at E3, and the team behind the game is showing off the goods for the upcoming Lands of Despair expansion. GDC saw a preview of the earliest zone for the new chapter, but E3 is focusing on the new Redhill Mountain zones, spanning from level 65 to 68. Players will be tossed into the center of a war between the Fireboot Dwarves and the rhino-like Kaylo race. And at the center of everything sits the dungeon of Sardo Castle, a font of undead and villainy.

The centerpiece of the Redhill Mountains is the Battlefield of Steel, where the Dwarves and Kaylo take part in an ongoing war of aggression that's stretched out for 10 long years. Players will be tasked with investigating both sides of the issue and uncovering the sinister motives behind the conflict, with the true villain waiting at the heart of the Sardo Castle instance. Runes of Magic fans should take a look at the special preview gallery below, showing off the zone and instance in elaborate detail.

E3 2011: Checking in with Free Realms

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:30 PM PDT

Representing Massively, WoW Insider's own Dan O'Halloran met up with the folks at Sony Online Entertainment at E3 today to talk about the newest features coming to the popular free-to-play MMO Free Realms. Apprentice Designer Eric Smith walked Dan through the time-honored art of Farming as presented in Free Realms, though the in-game version is much less tedious than its real-world counterpart.

Players are given a plot of land, which they must clear of rocks and trees through a series of introductory quests. After that, all that's left is to lay down some topsoil, plant some seeds (bought with Station Cash or found from plants throughout the game world), water them, and wait for them to grow. Crops can take anywhere between 15 minutes and a whole day to come to bloom, which gives players extra incentive to log in daily and harvest the fruits of their labor. Eric was quick to note that it's absolutely possible to get the most out of your farming experience without dropping a dime in the Station Store, though fertilizer (which makes your crops grow faster) and miracle-grow (which brings withered crops back from the dead) are both available for those who want to enhance their farming prowess. The crops can be used either to initiate a Farmer's Market minigame or for Ranching.

Farming is just the first stage of a planned three-stage process, the second of which will be Ranching, and the third of which is yet to be announced. Ranching will allow players to collect their own menagerie of wild animals, which they can feed the hard-grown crops from their farm. Your farm levels up with you, and as players reach higher Farming levels, they unlock the ability to grow more varied crops, which they can in turn feed to the animals on their ranches. There is currently no release date for the Ranching addition or the third to-be-announced stage of the process, but be sure to keep an eye on the official Free Realms site for future updates.

Rise of the Ourobani coming to Alganon this winter

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 07:00 PM PDT

Alganon has come a long way since its launch, with the conversion to free-to-play and several updates helping to improve the game's feel and engine immensely. Now it's time for the game to move on to its next big step of development -- its first expansion. Yes, that's right, the game is expanding with Rise of the Ourobani, introducing a new race and class to the game along with several other new features.

The eponymous Ourobani are a race in service to a god long thought lost, with the Asharr and Kujix both attempting to seize the Ourobani's power for their own ends. Players will also get access to the game's first pet class in the form of the Warden. In addition, the game is promising both player and guild housing, flying mounts, and a new continent called Aeon, on which players can enjoy a whole new leveling experience. If your opinion of Alganon hasn't been updated since the game's original development, it might be a good time to start looking at the game with new eyes -- there's a lot on the expansion plate, especially for a free-to-play game.

E3 2011: Nival announces Facebook-integrated MMO Prime World

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 06:30 PM PDT

Nival may be a new player in the MMOsphere, but Prime World, its first big push into the fray, is looking to turn a few heads. Developed in the Unity 3D engine and promising an intense PvP experience inspired by Defense of the Ancients, Prime World hopes to break from other, similar games by integrating itself into Facebook. While elements of the social game can be played in a web browser, the PvP combat will require a downloadable client.

Players will be able to construct castles and enjoy other social gaming features, and these elements will bleed into the PvP portions of the game and vice-versa. Well-designed castles will provide "meaningful benefits" to the PvP action scenes, and social networks can be exploited, helping players gain strategic advantages. Likewise, the spoils gained from successful PvP victories and other minigames can be used to customize your castle or be gifted to friends.

Nival is expecting Prime World to enter closed beta late this year, but it released a teaser trailer to whet our appetites until then. Check it out after the break!

The Game Archaeologist traces his Lineage: The highlights

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 06:00 PM PDT

If we judged MMOs by their numbers alone -- and I'm not suggesting we do so -- then Lineage would be the crowing rooster strutting about the hen house. It's also been one of those games that I've always intellectually acknowledged was a huge hit for some reason, but I never gave it much attention. I think it's because, contrary to many of the "big name" games we cover here, Lineage was and always will be an Asian phenomenon. That doesn't mean it should be shunned, of course, but just that it may be difficult to understand when you're on the outside of it.

So let's back up the memory truck to September 1998, when a then-fledgling NCsoft rolled out a Diablo-esque isometric MMO and struck virtual gold in South Korea. At the time, gaming rooms were becoming a huge thing in the country; a recession had hit (giving people a lot of time with nothing to do), and the government was rapidly expanding the broadband network. In the face of this perfect storm, titles like StarCraft and Lineage became overnight household fixtures -- and the country hasn't looked back.

Even if you haven't played Lineage and you don't know anyone who does, trust me: There are a lot of people playing this 13-year-old title, to the tune of millions and millions. As former Senior Producer Chris Mahnken said, "Lineage keeps going because it's just plain fun."

This month we'll be looking back at the incredible legacy that Lineage has given the industry, starting with an overview of the highlights of these past 13 years. Hit the jump and mind the gap!

E3 2011: SWTOR flies to Alderaan

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 05:30 PM PDT

Alderaan is known mostly for being the homeworld of Princess Leia and being one of the first victims of the Death Star. However, the planet is rich with history even 3000 years before the events in Star Wars: A New Hope.

The developers at BioWare have mentioned in the past that Alderaan would host one of the PvP Warzones for Star Wars: The Old Republic, but they did not mention anything about the PvE aspects of the world -- until now. A usurper by the name of Bauris Ulgo has forcefully proclaimed himself king of Alderaan, and the Republic has asked you persuade him to leave. Of course, this will not be easy, and it will require that you and your team take it back by force.

Below we have some incredible screenshots of Alderaan, Tatooine, and player vehicles. After the break, we have SWTOR Lead Writer Daniel Erickson's livestream of Tatooine playthrough. And stay tuned here later this week as we bring you more information about the raid on Belsavis called the Eternity Vault and our impressions of playing on the open world of Tatooine.

E3 2011: Hands-on with SWTOR's Imperial Agent Operative

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 04:30 PM PDT

E3 officially kicked off today in Los Angeles, and I was lucky to be one of the first in line for the latest hands-on demo of Star Wars: The Old Republic at the enormous Electronic Arts booth. There were two different types of demo stations awaiting us: level 1 Galactic Republic characters for those who were new to the game and level 26 Sith Empire characters for those of us who were more comfortable with MMOs. I was hot to play the mid-level Sith characters, but first we had to watch a 10-minute instructional video on how to play each advanced class.

MMObility: As I pack these devices for E3

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 04:00 PM PDT

As I sit here waiting for a fresh reinstall of Windows Vista on one of my desktop PCs, I decided to take stock of all of the equipment currently in my nerd life. It's funny that when you have access to more devices, habits start to form around those devices. My morning ritual is typically to get up, start up the laptop, and prepare breakfast while it readies. Then I sit down and poke around on Twitter, check email, or catch up on different blog sites. Sometimes I will make a cup of tea and sit in the stoop of the backdoor with my iPad, waiting for my wife to get up.

Over time I have discovered that some devices work better for certain tasks than others. For example, I prefer to write my articles on my basic laptop, but I prefer to finalize them with photos and re-editing on my desktop. I now would rather check my email and Twitter on my iPad (I got my wife's old one when she moved up to an iPad 2) and would rather use my iPhone for music than my HTC: Inspire. It's odd, what a mix of devices I have now... but how inconvenient.

So I wanted to go over a few comparisons between all of the devices and talk about what I might find at E3 next week. Click past the cut!

E3 2011: New Dark Millennium Online teaser sighted in the wild

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 03:30 PM PDT

The first E3 tidbit on THQ's Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online is officially loose on the interwebs, and it takes the form of a short teaser video. When we say short, we mean short (as in, less than a minute in length -- 10 seconds of which are given over to company logos). Since the footage is heavily stylized, it's hard to tell exactly what is gameplay and what is cinematic.

In any event, it all looks pretty cool, and fans looking forward to Vigil's take on the dark and dystopian far-future setting will be left wanting a bit more. The video also plays it coy when it comes to WAR40K's release date, opting for a cryptic "coming soon" tag when all the pyrotechnics have died down. Have a look after the cut and let us know what you think.

Hyperspace Beacon: Find your focus

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 03:00 PM PDT

Thanks to the new advanced class page on the Star Wars: The Old Republic website and MMORPG.com's interview with Georg Zoeller, we now know quite a bit about the skill tree breakdown of each advanced class. However, over the next few weeks, I want to take a look at a few of the classes and read between the lines of text. Several abilities are listed for each class, but how do they fit together? What does the complete package look like?

The Jedi Knight looks to be one of the most popular classes to play. After all, what kid growing up didn't have a fantasy of wielding a lightsaber just like Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi? I'd like to give a general overview of the advanced class abilities and collate a comprehensive list of the announced abilities. Follow me beyond the cut to see how these puzzle-pieces fit together in SWTOR.

TQ Digital announces Edge of Night expansion for Eudemons

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 02:30 PM PDT

TQ Digital has announced the upcoming expansion to its free-to-play MMORPG Eudemons, titled Edge of Night, and boy is it going to suck. We mean that in the most literal sense, as the new update will add Vampires to the game's ranks. The Vampire will be the fourth class to join Eudemons' world of Cronus, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Warrior, Mage, and Paladin (somehow we think the Vampire may have some contention with the latter).

Details on this new class are virtually nonexistent at this point, but TQ Digital promises a slew of information leading up to the release of the new update. Of course, there's really only one truly pressing question regarding the matter: Will the Vampires sparkle? We sure hope not. Players thirsty for new information on the new class can sink their fangs into some Vampire-related lore and artwork while they wait for more news on the official site.

The second submission for foe week is a DC Universe Online screenshot from JillInTheBox:
One of the coolest bosses in DC Universe Online is Catwoman. She is the last boss in the Gotham museum solo-instance. She takes on the powers of four Egyptian cat idols. It's tough to get a good screenshot of her as she's jumping around kicking your face in, but I got a nice portrait of her in the criminal hideout in Gotham City, the Tap Room.
Ready to show off your most impressive enemy? Send a pic of the funniest, most strangely designed, or scariest enemy you've taken on in an MMO to oneshots@massively.com along with your name and the name of the game. Tell us a little about the foe and we'll share it here on One Shots!

Razer puts the power of the Force in your hands [updated]

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:30 PM PDT

Razer famously brought PC peripherals to the MMO market by giving the gamer the wildly popular Naga mouse. In celebration of the upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, the manufacturer has launched four new accessories for the TOR gamer: a keyboard, mouse, headset, and mousepad.

The developers at BioWare have said that macros will not be available in game at launch, but apparently that will not stop the SWTOR Razer keyboard from allowing you to macro commands via its LED track-panel and 10 dynamic tactile keys.

The mouse sports 12 programmable thumb buttons, much like the Naga. If you have played any MMO with a Naga, you know that this mouse makes activating your special attacks easier and faster than reaching with your fingers over the keyboard. However, this mouse does have a slightly different case design than the classic Naga, and of course, displays either the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire logo.

You can't have a Razer mouse without a SWTOR Razer mousepad (well, maybe you can). This mousepad is specifically designed to help the Razer mouse glide evenly over the surface and give you precise movement with the cursor.

Lastly, the SWTOR Razer headset yields 5.1 surround sound. Cutting someone in half with a lightsaber sounds best when you can hear it in 3-D sound.

After the break, check out the video by Razer showing off the SWTOR Razer keyboard.

[Update: Dover from Darth Hater spoke to Razer at E3. The full video interview is after the break.]

E3 2011: Neverwinter site goes live with a new trailer

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:00 PM PDT

Praise Tyr! Cryptic Studios announced today that the official Neverwinter website has gone live. Neverwinter, for those unaware, is an in-development game from Cryptic Studios that brings players to the famous Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons and particularly to the city of Neverwinter. In the game's timeline, the city has recently been razed by a volcanic eruption. Though it has been partially restored to its former glory, it's up to the players to defend the city and fully rebuild the Jewel of the North.

The site is full of information on the game, including backstory, planned features, an FAQ, and a peek at the game's content creation kit called The Foundry. It's also got some lovely concept art and early screenshots from the game, and of course, a news feed so everyone anticipating this new release can keep up on the latest updates. Lastly, be sure to check back with us Thursday for an interview with the folks behind Neverwinter straight from E3, and watch the new trailer after the cut.

Trion Worlds releases new trailer, screenshots for Waves of Madness

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 12:30 PM PDT

A while back, we published an exclusive dossier on RIFT's Abyssal Cult. Well, it looks like players are going to get to know the cult personally when Trion Worlds releases RIFT's patch 1.3, titled Waves of Madness. The update appears to focus on the abandoned Dwarven city of Hammerknell, where Akylios, the Dragon of the plane of water, is currently imprisoned. Players will likely be responsible for ensuring that the Abyssal Cult does not liberate its chaotic master. The players won't be alone in this, as it appears they have a new ally in the form of... Scotty?

Yes, that's right, RIFT's Guardian players will remember Scotty as the hapless Dwarf freshman at Quicksilver College who offers an entire questline dedicated to protecting him from his classmates' cruel pranks. Now he appears to be playing a large part in this new patch, though what precisely that part is remains to be seen. Trion Worlds has kindly released a new trailer promoting the new patch as well as a smattering of new screenshots featuring everyone's favorite absent-minded Dwarf. Check out the gallery below for those screenshots, and jump past the cut for the new trailer! Also, be sure to check back Thursday for some fresh RIFT information straight from Trion at E3.

EVE's Incarna countdown kicks off

This has got to be a tough week for stick-in-the-mud EVE Online vets who are convinced that an expanding New Eden is a bad thing. First it was yesterday's official Dust 514 E3 reveal (consoles, platform exclusivity, and shooters, oh my!), and today we've got an official countdown clock to the EVE version of dress-up... er, Incarna.

Yes, the long-awaited walking-in-stations/ambulation/EVE-with-legs update is less than two weeks away, and CCP has prepared a new section of its official EVE website devoted to all things Incarna.

The new portal has a good bit of info on the expansion, including a new video dev blog featuring Team BFF and its commitment to improving and expanding EVE's minutia. If you're newly interested in EVE, Incarna, or really anything to do with New Eden, head to the new site and have a look at the video after the cut.

GamersFirst revamps Knight Online's capital city

GamersFirst is getting a lot of press lately due to its resurrection project on APB: Reloaded, but it bears mentioning that San Paro isn't the only city receiving some love from the free-to-play company.

Knight Online's capital city of Moradon "has risen from the ashes to be completely redesigned," according to a new GamersFirst press blurb. Moradon's architecture has been permanently redone, and the questing hub boasts a graphical revamp that reflects the city's rebuilding efforts following the destructive machinations of the god Pathos in Knight Online's chapter eight update.

Knight Online is a PvP- and story-centric MMO that allows players to fight for lands and castles in the kingdom of Carnac. Four character classes are available, and you can learn more about the Warrior, Rogue, Priest, and Mage at the game's official web destination.
