The Nexus Telegraph: WildStar forges a path Posted: 27 May 2013 10:00 AM PDT Filed under: Betas, Sci-Fi, Game Mechanics, Opinion, WildStar, The Nexus Telegraph The latest news out of WildStar's new previews isn't going to quiet people who dislike the concept of the game's path system, nor will it stanch the flow of complaints about the game's art style. Those of us simply waiting at attention, however, found ourselves rewarded this week with a wealth of new information, not to mention the best look we've yet seen at how the paths will work together in action instead of concept. And that's only the tip of the iceberg; Jeremy Gaffney has said so many things that merit unpacking that it's almost impossible to swallow some of the implications. There is, in fact, far too much to unpack in a single week. So I'm going to look at paths and start figuring out everything else next week. I may also gush about the Mechari at some point. It's like GLaDOS, Hal, and Starscream had a kid. Fan brings SWTOR's Darth Malgus to life Posted: 27 May 2013 09:20 AM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Video, Culture, News Items, Free-to-Play, Star Wars: The Old Republic It's no secret that as players, we can really get into our favorite MMOs. But some folks have the skills and dedication to take this much further than the rest of us mere mortals! Such is the case with Julian Checkley, who sent us a video in which he plucked Darth Malgus from Star Wars: The Old Republic's Deceived trailer right off the screen and plunked him down in real life. Built from scratch in his workshop in Ireland, the costume took six weeks to complete. This footage was actually a spur of the moment idea to show off the just-complete project, and Checkley noted that no CGI was used. He did, however, lament that the costume was lacking a sexy blue Twi'lek partner. Watch him don the costume for the first time after the break, and tell us if that isn't just the definition of awesome! [Thanks to our tipster!] Continue reading Fan brings SWTOR's Darth Malgus to life Fan brings SWTOR's Darth Malgus to life originally appeared on Massively on Mon, 27 May 2013 11:20:00 EST. Age of Wushu says 'I do!' to marriage, ultimate scrolls Posted: 27 May 2013 07:00 AM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Patches, PvP, Free-to-Play, Sandbox, Age of Wushu If you haven't had enough to do in Age of Wushu yet, then you are one easily bored cookie. But never fear, Snail Games is here! The team has been frantically adding more systems to the game to flesh out the martial arts title, and now players can get married, gain ultimate scrolls, and try out a couple of new PvP modes. The marriage system in Age of Wushu is more complicated than in other MMOs. A dowry must be given, a wedding package purchased, and a special team task performed. The benefits for the happy couple are several, however, including rings that teleport each of them to their spouse. Players can now attempt to obtain the most powerful skills for their respective schools through ultimate scrolls. Unlike other skills, players are restricted to getting an ultimate scroll only from their dedicated combat school. These skills are good to take into the PvP battlefield, where death modes and faction modes await. EVE Evolved: Archaeology and Hacking in Odyssey Posted: 26 May 2013 04:00 PM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, EVE Online, Expansions, Game Mechanics, PvP, PvE, Opinion, EVE Evolved, Dev Diaries, Sandbox, Dungeons EVE Online's Odyssey expansion is set to land in just over a week's time, kicking off the game's second decade with a focus on exploration, immersion, and resource rebalancing. Developers plan to shake up nullsec by redistributing the value of various moon minerals and buffing player-owned outposts, and lowsec will become a more tempting place to visit with the addition of valuable new tags to asteroid belt NPCs. But what's in it for highsec players? In addition to new navy issue battlecruisers and immersive new jump and death sequences, players from all corners of EVE will find new exploration content in their back yards. A big part of the new exploration system is a complete redesign of the Hacking and Archaeology mini-professions, which have been in EVE for as long as I can remember and have remained relatively unchanged. Odyssey will add new sites for both professions and replace the boring old chance-based system with a new minigame that emphasises co-operation with other players. In this week's EVE Evolved, I look at the history of Hacking and Archaeology in EVE and what the new system brings to the table.
