Gameloft Releases New Modern Combat 5 Blackout Teaser Trailer Ahead of E3

The hype train for Gameloft's upcoming Modern Combat 5: Blackout continues to chug along as E3 is set to begin next week and I'd imagine the game's release isn't too far off from that. This morning, Gameloft released a new teaser trailer showcasing a bit of new footage from the game. I say bit because… it's pretty brief, but it looks awesome nonetheless. Check it out.

Shi Hai, who is the CEO of Snail Games, was recently interviewed in China, and he announced that graphical upgrades were definitely in the works. However, he declined to specify exactly what sort of upgrades would be coming. Besides, rumors about the Unreal 3 engine might well be true since he did joke on that.

So with the new update to the Guild Wars 2 site. We found that Living Story will get a bit of an upgrade. You will be able to play it on command. And go back to previous story's. Of course you will need to gem pay for that option. But it's still available to do to all. It seems story telling will be more of a focus this season as well.

Razer CEO on Blade Delay: We’re ‘Terrible’ at Anticipating Product Demand

Posted: 08 Jun 2014 04:43 PM PDT

The New Razer Blade (2014)

The 3K gaming laptop is but the latest Razer product to get delayed in recent times

Unsheathed in March as the world's thinnest and highest-res 14-inch gaming laptop, the New Razer Blade was expected to begin shipping in mid-April but even many of those who pre-ordered the 3K notebook on the very first day have yet to receive it. Now, the Razer Blade family is no stranger to delays, with the original Blade laptop also getting beset by a similarly frustrating delay. As he had done back then, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan once again took to Facebook this past Friday to apologize from the very bottom of his heart.

In a Facebook post steeped in candor, Tan admitted to having considerable trouble andticipating comsumer demand for its products.

"Each time we announce a new product – we end up having some of our customers wait for months before they get their pre-orders," Tan wrote. "A good example is the latest Razer Blade – we announced it in March '14 and there are many who pre-ordered on the day of launch who haven't received their units even till today.  I wish I could claim that it's a one off situation and we'll do better the next time – but I'll be honest, we've been screwing up on anticipating demand for a long time – for the past couple of years, every time we launch a new product, demand just far outstrips the supply. "

The company, according to Tan, has tried a number of things to prevent such delays — including increasing manufacturing capacity and switching to phased product roll-outs — but to no avail.

"We suck at this. I suck at this. I apologize to all of you who have had to wait for ages each time we launch a new product. And this isn't the first time I'm apologizing for this, I'm afraid, but I do intend to change the system so that we can launch products better here at Razer and have more happy customers who can get their hands on our products."

Here's a quick rundown of the 2014 Razer Blade's specs:

  • Intel Core i7-4702HQ Quad Core Processor with Hyper Threading 2.2GHz / 3.2GHz (Base/Turbo)
  • 8GB onboard memory (DDR3L-1600MHz)
  • NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 870M (3GB GDDR5 VRAM, Optimus Technology)
  • 14.0" QHD+ 16:9 Ratio, 3200x1800, with LED backlight, capacitive multi-touch
  • 128GB / 256GB / 512GB SSD (SATA M.2)
  • Compact 150W Power Adapter
  • Built-in 70Wh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery
  • Built-in HD webcam (2.0MP)
  • USB 3.0 port x3 (SuperSpeed)
  • HDMI 1.4a audio and video output
  • Intel Wireless-AC 7260HMW (802.11a/b/g/n/ac + Bluetooth 4.0)

Star Citizen tops $45 million, releases Freelancer commercial

Star Citizen Freelancer
It's been a while since we've seen a new spaceship commercial for Star Citizen. Given that Cloud Imperium is pimping the Freelancer this weekend, though, it's no surprise that the space big-rig now has its own in-universe advertisement.

Genre mainstay Lance Henriksen does the voiceover honors, and there's a distinctive Firefly vibe to the whole clip, right down to the twangy guitar underneath. See for yourself after the break, and don't blink or you'll miss the Mother Trucker bumper decal!

You might also want to read Chris Roberts' latest thank-you letter penned in response to Star Citizen breaking the $45 million crowdfunding barrier.

Darkfall Unholy Wars answers questions on custom roles

Posted: 08 Jun 2014 09:00 AM PDT

Spinning round and round.
In the original version of Darkfall, skill selection was a wide-open field. When the game relaunched as Darkfall Unholy Wars, the role system was introduced, narrowing the field of options significantly. Now custom roles are incoming, and that means that players have questions about how the new mechanics will work. Those questions are being answered in a three-part series of community Q&A sessions, with the first two parts available now.

Some mechanics are being removed -- Wobble, for instance, was introduced solely to balance roles, but with the new system the developers no longer need balancing specifically between roles. There have been significant adjustments made to some skills, in part to avoid the situation wherein everyone has a ranged kill skill and super-powerful healing. Despite this, the answers also point out that most characters will actually see a net increase in power overall. If you want to know more, feel free to glance at the full rundown of answers for more details.

Ugh, every time I see a great Champions Online screenshot I lament to the universe how such a good-looking game flopped so hard. Shouldn't have been that way. Or maybe it's not; maybe it's the best-kept secret in MMOs and I don't know it.

Reader Sean sent in this picture of his team, the Agents of SWORD: "I used to play quite a bit of this game from closed beta through about four months after launch. Before the dark times. Before the patches. At any rate, I loved this game with a deep passion--mostly because the costume designer was near limitless. But then I was also able to run the game at max settings at 1920x1080 and it was glorious."

We have more gloriosity (go with it) for your starved eyes after the break!

The Daily Grind: Are you still excited about crowdfunding?

    Star Citizen's Arena Commander
I'm a big fan of crowdfunding. Middlemen bother me, both inside the gaming industry and out, and anything that allows creators to reach their audience with less interference from MBAs, marketers, and the like is a win in my book.

That said, my personal crowdfunding honeymoon period is over. I'm finding myself more and more uninterested in betas, alphas, and backer-only pre-alpha stuff. Case in point is Star Citizen's recently released Arena Commander (or dogfighting module, if you prefer). I'm still a big fanboy, and as such I was excited to fire it up for the first time. I'm also appreciative of all the work that Cloud Imperium has done since the game was announced, but man I just don't want to play pre-release stuff!

The stack of finished games on my desk is too large, as is the list of non-gaming hobbies, for me to waste time on buggy builds and feature sets that may change post-release. I'm not complaining, though, as the option to get in and see the development process is great. What about you, Massively readers? Are you still excited about crowdfunding? If so, do you get your hands dirty pre-release?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

      Make My MMO: June 2 - June 8, 2014

      Make My MMO
Cloud Imperium released Star Citizen's dogfighting module this week, and you'd think that Chris Roberts slept with someone's mother or kicked someone's dog. Heck, maybe he did both at once, judging by the amount of shameless boohooing on the game's official forums, on Massively, and generally everywhere the words star and citizen appeared in the same sentence.

Outside of cluelesstrollbubbleland, the publish marked a fairly major milestone for CIG and gave the firm's backers something tangible to tool around with while they wait for the space sim sandbox's next module release.

Click past the cut for the rest of this week's crowdfunding roundup.

CIG spotlighting Star Citizen's Freelancer this weekend

        Star Citizen Freelancer
Cloud Imperium is spotlighting Star Citizen's Freelancer class hull this weekend, with a lengthy website update, one of those spiffy in-character ship brochures, and three new variants either available via a pre-release backer purchase or available to earn in the finished game.

CIG has also patched Star Citizen's hangar module, so if you own one of the Freelancer variants you'll now be able to explore them to your heart's content (though you can't use them in the recently released dogfighting module just yet).

The new variants include the DUR, custom fitted for exploration, the MIS, a missile boat design, and the MAX, a dedicated hauler with additional cargo space.

The Road to Mordor: Why nothing stacks up to Shadows of Angmar

        Posted: 07 Jun 2014 02:00 PM PDT

I'm putting all of my cards out on the table here: I am in a massive Lord of the Rings Online slump right now. It's perhaps one of the biggest that I've had in years, which is made baffling by the fact that it was triggered by a new patch. I was pretty psyched about Update 13 until it came out, at which point I felt my enthusiasm drain away as I picked at the remainders of the epic story and a frustratingly boring Fangorn zone.

I tried not to swing into bitter burnout mode and calmly backed away to give myself a sabbatical from the game. Hey, it happens to all of us no matter how much we love a game, right? But during this time off from LotRO, I've been wondering a lot why for all of the improvements to story, questing, and art in the recent expansions, when I think of what I love about the game it's always everything pre-Moria.

So I'm going to start today's column with a bold hypothesis and then see if I can back it up: Nothing in this game can stack up to Shadows of Angmar content. Nothing feels as right as it does and did in those zones.

Continue reading The Road to Mordor: Why nothing stacks up to Shadows of Angmar
