General: My Problem with Fallout Posted: 15 Jan 2015 12:35 PM PST My name is Chris, and I have a problem. In 2009, I realized that I don't like Fallout. I have tried, over and over, to connect with what gamers love in these titles and just can't. Games have been bought and rebought chasing the elusive dragon that is the post-apocalypse. I've made excuses, rolled multiple characters, and forced myself to play. I like Elder Scrolls, so why not this? This is my story. |

World of Warcraft: Datamined Veteran Accounts Explained Posted: 14 Jan 2015 04:33 PM PST Earlier this week, it was revealed through datamining the latest PTR version of World of Warcraft that something called a Veteran Account would perhaps be introduced at a later time. Speculation ran rampant that this might mean that lapsed subscribers would be able to play their characters but with heavy restrictions, perhaps also leading to a F2P model of WoW. However, Community Manager Bashiok has explained its true meaning. |
General: Savage Lands Announced: Open World Fantasy Survival Game Posted: 15 Jan 2015 03:34 PM PST Signal Studios and DigitalDNA Games have announced that the early access for its new title, Savage Lands, will kick off in February. Savage Lands is described as a first person open world survival game in a fantasy setting. Players face off against monsters and other creatures to scavenge for the resources needed to survive. |

Trove: Beta to Close Soon(ish) & Launch Ahead in 2015 Posted: 15 Jan 2015 12:29 PM PST If all goes according to plan, Trion's Trove will be launching sometime in 2015. Trove Game Director Andrew "Avarem" Krausnick has written a brand new letter that also lets players know that the team has every intention of releasing wind (flying!), water (swimming!) and 'earthy' effect alongside more building materials to expand the ones already in the game. |

General: Shadowrun: Hong Kong Defies KickStarter Fatigue Posted: 14 Jan 2015 03:16 PM PST Like many of you I'm suffering from Kickstarter fatigue. I'm even starting to grow weary of writing about it. Even new IPs from well renowned developers fail to raise my pulse if they are seeking money from players first and plan on delivering a product second. Crowdfunding is definitely a viable financing option for developers, however, and a highly successful developer has gone back to the Kickstarter well. |
Star Wars: The Old Republic: But Everyone Else Was Doing It Too! Posted: 14 Jan 2015 03:27 PM PST This week, Star Wars: the Old Republic put in a patch that had a fairly large number of tweaks to the game, mostly a lot of bugfixes and updates to various group activities such as changing which comms drop and rebalancing certain encounters. Sadly, however, much of these things were not the topic of many conversations about the game the past few weeks. |

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: Get a Quick Look at v2.5 Posted: 15 Jan 2015 08:44 AM PST The Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone has been updated with a sneak peek preview at some of the upcoming content coming with patch v2.5. This time, the team provides a small look ahead at the new story arc and a side mission as well as information about Gilgamesh and the horrors to be found in Twelveswood. |
Elder Scrolls Online: Devs Detail the New Champion System Posted: 15 Jan 2015 08:30 AM PST The Elder Scrolls Online team has published a handy guide that takes some of the mystery out the Champion System, the overhauled progression system that comes along with Update 6. There is a section for each of the major parts of the Champion System: Points, Constellations, Passives and Enlightenment that will hopefully clear up some of the mystery surrounding the new system. |
General: What to Do When Your Favorite RPG is Over Posted: 14 Jan 2015 03:49 PM PST After nearly one hundred twenty hours, I finished my completionist run through Dragon Age: Inquisition today. As I sat staring at the credits and waiting for the short epilogue cinematic that would come after them, I was left with a curious sense of emptiness with a mental image of an empty calendar filled with endless days stretching out in front of me. |
