Combat Arms, the fast-paced online first person shooter from Nexon, is celebrating its third year in style this week with loads of anniversary-themed events and prizes up for grabs.

Players will be able to sport third anniversary-branded gear and weapons  after participating in various events throughout the June update, which is available now. The largest anniversary event is a dog tag hunt; special dog tags will be strewn about the game and will collectively spell out the phrase 'COMBAT ARMS 3RD.' Players can redeem the dog tags for special third anniversary prizes, including an epic weapon.

Also included in the June update is a brand new Daily Job system, where players will be given a new set of tasks every day upon logging in, rewarding players with weapons, equipment, and free extensions on NX weapons. These small tasks can range anywhere from  playing certain matches to capturing a few flags, so players should be on the lookout for in-game notices and messages.

For those players looking to upgrade some items in their vintage collection, a weapons upgrade system will also be featured in this update. Soldiers can upgrade specific weapons after completing certain tasks; for example, after getting 100 kills with one of the upgradable guns, players can trade it in for a Mark 2 version, adding power and versatility to their arsenal.

Firefall, a free-to-play science-fiction (self described as a “team based action shooter”) game published by Red 5 Studios, has announced that the famous author Orson Scott Card will help write the story of the game.

Orson will be joined by his daughter, Emily Janice Card, to co-write a Firefall Manga (illustrated by Joe Ng). The manga will include a story that mirrors the player experience, and will be available as a free download.

Today, Red 5 Studios is proud to announce its collaboration with legendary science-fiction writer Orson Scott Card who is helping write the story of Firefall. Card is lending his creative talents to aid in shaping the Firefall universe and, along with daughter Emily Janice Card, is co-writing a Firefall manga novel to be masterfully drawn by Joe Ng and the talented artists at UDON Entertainment.

"It's an absolute honor to welcome Orson Scott Card to the Red 5 family as an honorary member of The Tribe," gushes Red 5 Studios CEO Mark Kern. "Orson understands us as a studio, what we represent and gets the vision we have for Firefall. I truly believe that gamers will be surprised by how rich and engaging the Firefall world is and am confident that this partnership will give birth to a story that rivals any major sci-fi franchise."

The manga details a story parallel to the player experience within Firefall and gives a deeper understanding of the game's expansive universe. Staying true to Red 5's support of free-to-play entertainment, this UDON Entertainment-created comic will be made available later this year as a free download.

“Being a long time fan of UDON's comics and artwork, I’m super excited about the chance to collaborate with them on an original graphic novel for Firefall," explains Red 5 Art Lead Adam McMahon. “If that wasn’t enough, I have the pleasure of working directly with Joe Ng whose work on the Street Fighter IV comic series is inspirational and fits with our own art style. This just feels right, like a perfect match, and I can’t wait to share our collaborative creation with the rest of the world.”

Dungeon Fighter Online Act X now live

Posted: 01 Jul 2011 03:28 PM PDT

Act X: Rebirth is now live on Dungeon Fighter Online servers.

The update adds a new playable character, the Thief, who serves as the fastest character in the game with two subclasses – Rogue and Necromancer. Seven new dungeons are available at the port city of Bahn Hafen, and the level cap has been raised to 70 with new specialized skills.

More specially, this patch also decreases the amount of experience required to level up by about 40%, redesigns the item shop, and replaces the Fatigue Point system with the Blitz Points system. Blitz Points gather the longer you play, and reward additional experience.

Dungeon Fighter Online is published by Nexon, which also publishes Combat Arms, Mabinogi, and MapleStory.

Thief class, massive world expansion and level rebalancing now available in Dungeon Fighter Online

Nexon has announced that Dungeon Fighter Online's Act X: Rebirth content update is now live, giving players the opportunity to experience a complete rejuvenation of the game.

The much anticipated Thief is a swift, cunning, and deadly character class. As the fastest character in Dungeon Fighter Online, the Thief will be a force to be reckoned with. Her two subclasses, Rogue and Necromancer, will give players a chance to fight through dungeons with some of the most versatile character hierarchies in the game.

Not only is Arad unleashing a new class upon dungeon fighters today, but the world of DFO is expanding at a rapid pace. Several new dungeons are now available beyond the town of Arad and Empyrean to the port city of Bahn Hafen, an oceanic transport hub that serves as home to the Oceanic Express mystery train. While Kartel Agents left Bahn Hafen in ruins ages ago, this once proud cultural center of the Ospins Islands has been restored by Empyrean's Imperial Army. But continuing invasions from both the Kartel and myriad sea abominations that lie hidden beneath the city's murky depths have weakened Bahn Hafen's defenses, leaving the city and the Oceanic Express vulnerable to even more attacks. Seven brand new dungeons and never-before-seen enemies await players to expand their DFO adventure.

As a response to player feedback, DFO's leveling system has been completely rebalanced to adequately reflect the time and energy spent battling through dungeons. For the Act X: Rebirth update, the level cap has been raised to 70, and the amount of EXP needed to level up will significantly decrease, which means it will be 40 percent easier and more efficient to level up.  As an additional response to player feedback, the DFO item shop has been revamped and will now sell avatars to players who want to customize their look. Not only will players be able to choose the avatar's style and color, but they can pick the exact stat option that will create the optimal character according to play preference. Thanks to the Item Shop renovation, avatar items will be displayed more efficiently, allowing players to compare and contrast different garments while modeling their favorite styles.

Players can also look forward to the new Blitz Points system which will replace the Fatigue Points system as the primary method of leveling up. The Blitz Point System will allow players to fight through the DFO world for as long as they want, and will further be rewarded with additional EXP points as they continue to spend time exploring the game. This will be particularly helpful for DFO's new Specialized Skill System, which allows players level 50 and above to strengthen and reinforce various stats such as Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Spirit, Hit and Evasion Rate.

MARTIAL ARTS CLIMBS TO NEW HEIGHTS AS GAMESCAMPUS REVEALS THE SKILL SYSTEM OF SCARLET LEGACY

Upcoming Fantasy MMORPG Sheds Light On Its Martial Arts-Based Skills, Stances and More!

Sunnyvale, Calif. (June 30, 2011) – Leading online game publisher, GamesCampus.com (www.GamesCampus.com), today unleashed the details behind Scarlet Legacy’s new skill system.  Fittingly named “Martial Arts”, players must use their experience to train up in each of the three revealed categories: Talents, Skills, and Stances to create a character unique to their tastes and abilities. Players can sign up now for a chance to get a spot in the game’s upcoming closed beta test which is scheduled to start August 4, 2011 at http://scarletlegacy.com/

Skills are the basis of the player’s repertoire in Scarlet Legacy; these actions include a variety of moves good for all classes depending on which role that they are undertaking.  These abilities are unlocked simply by rising in the ranks at each even level.  Skills max out at level 10, though higher ranks need a higher level to unlock.  War Stomp, Impact Stab, and Ridicule make up just a small portion of the many skills that will be unlocked as the players become hardened veterans.

Talents unlock once a player reaches level 10 and one talent point is awarded for each level the player gains after that.  Trees contain a mix of free-floating abilities and chained abilities, where the precursor must be learned before the more advanced ability can be taken.  Talents give players the ability to customize their skills, with increased power, reduced cool downs, increased critical rates and more.  Goofed and put a talent in the wrong tree?  Most Martial Arts trainers can reset a player’s talents!

Last in the training triumvirate is Stances, which are used for both offensive and defensive purposes.  While stances max out at level five, their secrets are hidden in a variety of places: hidden with monsters throughout the world, or otherwise discovered.  More information will be revealed about Stances as the game’s launch approaches.
