Three New Heroes & a New Battleground Revealed

During today's non-streamed Blizzard press event, it was revealed that three new heroes and a new battleground will be heading into Heroes of the Storm. The Diablo 3 monk, Kharazim, Warcraft's Rexxar and Starcraft's Artanis are the new heroes and the Infernal Shrines, a take from D3, is the new battleground.

Horizons Expansion Announced

A new expansion to Elite: Dangerous is on the way according to a new announcement out of Gamescom today. Called "Horizons", portions of the expansion will be released episodically with the first portion called "Planetary Landings" which is expected to launch later in 2015. Subscriptions Plummet to 5.6 Million

World of Warcraft subscriptions have plummeted to 5.6 million in Quarter 2, down from 7.1 million in Quarter 1. This reflects a loss of nearly half the subscribers from the launch of Warlords of Draenor in November 2014 when numbers soared over the 10 million mark, and over 1.5 million subscriptions lost since the last financial report was released earlier this year. Even the WoW token could not stave off subscriber loss after being introduced in Spring 2015.

Although the modern MMOG era is usually regarded as having begun less than two decades ago, the category has come a very long way in this time span. It has gone from a tiny, virtually unknown niche to a genre that counts millions of regular players and generates billions of dollars in revenue.
