Skyforge: Review in Progress - My Ascension Slows Posted: 28 Jul 2015 03:53 PM PDT My epic ascension to god-hood slowed down this week. The reason was twofold. On one hand, I had to review Kyn (a fun little Indie RPG), but on the other hand I was actually very glad to take a break from Skyforge. After putting in over 40 hours since Open Beta Head Start, the repetitive nature of Skyforge's content is starting to get to me. |

Firefall: Chris Whiteside Touts Impending PS4 Release Posted: 29 Jul 2015 05:43 AM PDT Chris Whiteside, currently in attendance at this year's ChinaJoy, has let us know that Firefall will be coming to PlayStation 4 (no word on XBox One, however). He reached out to Managing Editor Bill Murphy directly to let us know that it had been announced at Sony's Press Conference. A press release should be forthcoming soon and we'll keep you posted as the story develops. |

Runescape: Players Helping to Save Endangered Big Cats Posted: 29 Jul 2015 03:23 AM PDT Jagex has announced that Runescape and Old School Runescape players will have the opportunity to participate in in-game events to raise funds for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to assist in the preservation of big cats in the wild. Players will be able to adopt companion cubs based on wild cats and can earn special titles for their characters. |
Shards Online: Pre-Alpha 2 Deemed a Success Posted: 27 Jul 2015 06:46 PM PDT The Shards Online newsletter has been published that gives a big shout out to participants in Pre-alpha 2, most especially to community run server admins. The event has led to the creation of a pair of round tables with developers to help provide support and to demonstrate how to run and mod a live server. |

Guild Wars 2: SMS Account Security Added Posted: 28 Jul 2015 02:07 PM PDT In the near future, Guild Wars 2 players will be asked to associate a telephone number with their account as part of a new move to keep player accounts safe from hacking. The new system will begin immediately but will roll out in stages. Over time, new accounts will be required to utilize the new SMS system. |
Kyn: A Wonderfully Unique but Flawed RPG Posted: 26 Jul 2015 07:23 PM PDT Kyn shouldn't exist. There's no reliable reason an RPG like this should come from a two-man team called Tangrin Games. Victor Legerstee and Cavit Ozturk are the two Dutch minds behind this unique strategic RPG. Sure they've had some help from contractors to finish the game, but the art, coding, level design, and all of that was done entirely by these two friends with a dream: to make an RPG that makes you think and tell a new tale in a new world. So, have they succeeded? |

EVE Online: Chronicles of a New Eden - A Pirate's Life for Me! Posted: 27 Jul 2015 12:15 PM PDT In spaces between the relentless mercantilism of high-sec and the dynastic feuds of null-sec lies the vast swathe of low security systems; the tattered fringe of order slowly unwoven by the ruthless chaos of lawless space. While a large portion of EVE Online's pilots avoid these systems like the plague, they have, like any region in EVE, evolved a society of their own. Helicity Boson wasn't like other pilots. He was, from his first days, forged in the conflict of pirate space. |
General: Ranking the MMO Devs by Employee Satisfaction Posted: 28 Jul 2015 05:58 AM PDT If you're looking to break into the gaming industry, where should you go? We all have our opinions of the "good" and "bad" companies to work for, but that's usually based on nothing more than a vague impression and isolated stories - some of which are flavored by our impressions of the company's games. |
General: Supporting John Smedley Posted: 27 Jul 2015 12:09 PM PDT John Smedley, outspoken former CEO of Daybreak Games, stepped down this week. Although Smedley hasn't officially stated the reason behind the change, the popular theory is that it has something to do with his on-going conflict with hacker group Lizard Squad. Lizard Squad is thought to be responsible for not only DDoS attacks on Daybreak's servers, but also calling in a bomb threat last year on a plane that Smedley was about to board. |
