General: Hanging Our RPG Hopes on Sword Coast Legends Posted: 12 Mar 2015 03:46 PM PDT There's no denying that the Baldur's Gate series is foundational in the evolution of single-player RPGs. The gameplay in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, along with their expansions, inspired a generation of isometric RPGs, including genre favorites Planescape: Torment and the Icewind Dale series. |
Skyforge: Closed Beta First Impressions Posted: 11 Mar 2015 09:02 PM PDT Skyforge, part of a joint development initiative between Allods Team and Obsidian with My.com as the publisher, recently hit closed beta status. Expected to launch just a little bit later this year, the F2P MMORPG is one we've been following for a while. We've been dabbling in the beta, and these are our initial thoughts. |

General: The Daily Quest - What Makes You Return to a Game? Posted: 13 Mar 2015 05:52 AM PDT We've all come and gone from our favorite MMOs. I can't count how many times I've made a return to World of Warcraft, even if just long enough to remember why I left in the first place. But what makes us return? Nostalgia? A new update? Boredom? Perhaps a mix of all three? That's today's Daily Quest. |

WildStar: Next Big Update, INVASION: Nexus coming to PTR Today Posted: 12 Mar 2015 11:36 AM PDT INVASION: Nexus brings tons of new, community-feedback based content to the game. Contracts give players who are short on time a new way to earn awesome gear, while aesthetic-related improvements like the Holo-Wardrobe and brand-new vanity pets let players cruise Nexus in style. Also incoming is a swath of new content, like a 20-player raid, a new adventure and expanded PvP options! |
World of Warcraft: Blizzcon Announced for November 6-7, 2015 Posted: 12 Mar 2015 11:15 AM PDT |
General: Why MMO Discussions Should Include Clash of Clans Posted: 10 Mar 2015 05:50 PM PDT I would like to apologize to my readers for my recent grumpiness; I tend to lash out when I feel that gaming and many of its fans are causing the genre more harm than good. If you have kept up with the last two or three years of gaming news, you'll know why I am so adamant about pressing the opinion that of all of the forces that are hurting the genre, entitled gamers will always be the biggest source of damage. |
General: RIP Sir Terry Pratchett Posted: 12 Mar 2015 10:46 AM PDT While not MMO-related, many here will be saddened to hear of the death of one of the world's most prolific and best-beloved authors, Sir Terry Pratchett. Pratchett wrote over seventy books based in and around Discworld. He died earlier today at age 66 in his home surrounded by his family. Pratchett had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's and had largely retired from public life in recent years. |
