TERA: The Skycastles Bring TERA's Action to the Heavens Posted: 17 Feb 2015 02:33 PM PST If you are an MMORPG fan like I am, it is easy to become a little depressed, thanks to the seemingly endless discussions over the "death" of MMOs and studio closures or while reading the comments section. (Note to self: stop it.) Even with my Jedi-level "game journalist" training (I put that on all of my business cards) I still find myself occasionally feeling down. Blue. Sad. Wondering about the future of "real" MMO gaming. |
General: Underworld Ascendant - What is the Improvisation Engine? Posted: 17 Feb 2015 02:41 PM PST When Paul Neurath and his team set out to make a new Underworld game, they wanted to make sure it stayed true to the originals from the early 1990s. Lucky for them, despite much success and critical adulation, no one's quite made a game like Underworld since then. We chatted with Paul about Underworld Ascendant and its use of the Improvisation Engine to make a much more believable and unscripted world for its players. |

Star Trek Online: 'How We Did It - Command Ships' Posted: 18 Feb 2015 05:39 AM PST The Star Trek Online site has a new design blog that delves into the process behind the creation of command ships. The post reveals how brainstorming is integral to making command ships, the game's support team, different mechanically from all other ships. Command ships benefit from several key buffs that can be applied across the board. |

World of Warcraft: Patch 6.1 Headed to Live Servers February 24th Posted: 18 Feb 2015 05:24 AM PST World of Warcraft will be updated with the much-anticipated v6.1 patch on Tuesday, February 24th. The patch brings some major features into the game including support for the color blind, Twitter integration, an heirlooms collection tab, the updated Blood Elf models, improvements to existing character models, and anti-aliasing / lighting improvements. |
Warhammer 40.000: Eternal Crusade: Founders Access Delayed to Autumn 2015 Posted: 16 Feb 2015 04:53 PM PST A brand new producer's letter has been published on the Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade site where Nathan Richardsson introduces himself and gives fans a bit of an update about the development of the game. Richardsson writes that the relative silence from Behaviour has been in large part due to the fact that the team is working on back end systems, but is also reviewing and revising the timeline to release the game. |
Hand of Fate: Defiant Development Deals up Pocket Kings Posted: 17 Feb 2015 09:29 AM PST One part board game, one part collectible card game, and one part computer role playing game, Hand of Fate is a witch's brew concocted by Australian based developer Defiant Development who tossed all of these ingredients into a cauldron and ended up with a game that is as entertaining as it is addictive. It is also one of the most unique games I have played in a very long time. |
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: Letter from the Producer Live Digest Published Posted: 17 Feb 2015 11:35 AM PST The Final Fantasy XIV site has been updated with a long written digest post from the last Letter from the Producer Live event. Among other things, players can learn more about the spotlight of the next update, the Manderville Gold Saucer. Yoshi P. said that the Manderville Gold Saucer was introduced in FFVII as an arcade location that is now being brought forward to FFXIV. |
Crowfall: Voxel Farm Technology & the Elken Stalker Archetype Posted: 17 Feb 2015 11:25 AM PST Artcraft has announced that Voxel Farm technology is being utilized in Crowfall. Rather than having it used as a creative factor in a sandbox environment, Todd Coleman likens it more to developers building sandcastles for the players to "kick over". The utilization of Voxel tech dovetails nicely with the idea that Crowfall's worlds decay over time and ultimately are destroyed. |
EVE Online: Tiamat Update Now Live Posted: 17 Feb 2015 11:16 AM PST The second major EVE Online update of 2015 is now in the books with the arrival of the Tiamat content expansion that continues the game's progress through a major overhaul and update throughout the balance of the year. Tiamat sees significant improvements to audio, graphics and effects on the back end side of things and several big feature improvements on the client side. |

Warhammer 40.000: Eternal Crusade: News & the Lack Thereof Posted: 16 Feb 2015 01:39 PM PST Hail and well met, fellow Crusaders! Terry from MMORPG here, and I'm back to talk Eternal Crusade with you again. To be honest, there's not a whole lot going on right now, other than the studio is still working on the game, particularly the first Early Access Module, but we'll find some things to discuss anyway, good, bad and ugly, in no particular order. |
General: Six Minecraft Clones That are More Than Minecraft Clones Posted: 16 Feb 2015 01:29 PM PST This week I would like to introduce you to several of the best looking Minecraft-esque multiplayer games I have had the fortune to get my hands on, with the exception of Oort Online (I've yet to play it.) Honestly, though, it is a bit unfair to refer to these games as Minescraft "clones" or anything as limiting, for a few reasons. |
