The Repopulation: All Round 1 Backers to Gain Access by Friday Posted: 04 Sep 2014 04:39 AM PDT According to the August update on The Repopulation site, Round 1 backers who have had previous access to the game during recent events have now been granted 24/7 access to the server beginning Friday. The team is hopeful that by the end of 2014, all backers will be given access as well. In addition, August saw the inclusion of open world player housing, player-created tournaments and the addition of minigames. |
Landmark: Creating the Battle Arena Posted: 02 Sep 2014 05:05 PM PDT Recently at SOE Live it was announced that PVP and more was coming to Landmark, and our own Jean Prior was there to give us a Preview. This got me excited, so I sought out David Georgeson Director of Development at PAX Prime to get a better understanding on how PVP came about and why it's part of a game that started as a building game. The answers were surprising but make perfect sense. |
Wakfu: Steam Version to Launch September 18th Posted: 02 Sep 2014 06:02 PM PDT Ankama has sent word that Wakfu's Steam version will officially kick off on September 18th. Current beta players will not see characters or progress wiped prior to the launch and will be able to continue their adventures afterward. To celebrate the big announcement, potential players can head to the Wakfu Steam page to try at a chance for a limited number of closed beta keys to get started that much earlier. |
World of Warcraft: Play for Free Until September 26th Posted: 02 Sep 2014 05:53 PM PDT Blizzard is sporting an interesting splash page that invites new World of Warcraft players to take on the game for free from now through September 26th, likely right before the release of the v6.0 patch that will lead to the Warlords of Draenor expansion. How this differs from the endless free 1-20 game play remains to be seen. |
Risen 3: Titan Lords: Decent Piratey Fun Posted: 01 Sep 2014 06:44 PM PDT Risen 3: Titan Lords is the latest role-playing game from German developer Piranha Bytes. The game sells itself on player freedom and a steeper learning curve than most modern games. The developer is offering a product that will not hold player's hands as they explore the tropical island setting and make inroads with the various factions and characters they encounter. |
Dragon Age: Inquisition: Hands On with the Multiplayer at PAX Posted: 03 Sep 2014 12:01 AM PDT In 2009 Bioware presented us with a high fantasy RPG Dragon Age: Origins which began an epic saga that has consisted of 8 DLCs, an expansion pack and a compilation edition. They followed it up with Dragon Age II in 2011 that had 4 DLCs of its own. It is now three years later and the story continues in their third title Dragon Age Inquisition. In this saga they added a 4 player co-op dungeon crawling experience to complement the single player adventure you are used to. |
General: PAX Prime 2014 Awards Posted: 02 Sep 2014 02:39 PM PDT Well the end of summer is here. For most of us that means back to school in some form or work in another. This year at PAX Prime we saw a host of AAA titles and Indie Games that will shape the landscape entering into the final half of the year and the first few months of 2015. With a major presence by top publishers we are still in awe of the powerful independent game movement that is sweeping the industry. |
Shadow Realms: 4v1 Awesomness at PAX Prime Posted: 02 Sep 2014 11:47 PM PDT Shadow Realms is the next RPG to come out of Star Wars: The Old Republic developer BioWare Austin. With Shadow Realms, BioWare hopes to recreate the tabletop RPG experience by pitting a group of four players against a fifth player playing as a 'Shadowlord' who essentially acts as the mission's dungeon master. |
Elder Scrolls Online: Zenimax Reduces Work Force Posted: 03 Sep 2014 10:24 AM PDT Joystiq is reporting that it has received word from Zenimax's Pete Hines that the studio behind Elder Scrolls Online is reducing its work force. Hines cites it as part of the normal development cycle as the game ages and becomes more stable. Zenimax will maintain a large workforce to continue to add more content to ESO. |
Pillars of Eternity: Strikes the Right Old School Notes Posted: 03 Sep 2014 05:30 AM PDT When it comes to expectations, Obsidian knows that they are sky high for its upcoming crowdfunded throwback RPG, Pillars of Eternity. The game was one of the first handful of super successful Kickstarter supported projects, with the team having learned a few lessons from the fast-paced community response almost immediately. With the release of the backers' beta just a couple of weeks ago, the game went before the fans at PAX late last week. |
Posted: 01 Sep 2014 06:28 PM PDT Trion is taking on Minecraft and SoE's Landmark with their own brand of sandbox cuteness with Trove, a voxel building multiplayer, online sandbox MMORPG. Graphically more akin to Minecraft than Landmark, Trove provides a different color of sandbox for players that enjoy the building game with some fighting, collecting and crafting thrown in for the fun of it. We got some time with the title at PAX to discuss the recent additions and upcoming closed beta. |
General: Eminence: Card Collecting RPG Where Science Meets Fantasy Posted: 03 Sep 2014 08:48 AM PDT A new card collecting game called Eminence has launched a Kickstarter campaign that combines the game play of an RPG with the setting where science meets science fiction. According to the campaign site, the game pits players in a high stakes game to acquire cards from opponents. The team has also updated the site with the welcome news that Eminence will also be available on Android and iOS. |
