Posted: 13 Jul 2014 07:02 PM PDT How long should MMOs last? It's a question that splits communities and confuses publishers. Some enthusiasts believe an MMO should persist in perpetuum, continuously getting updates, never ending. Others think they should be able to complete the content of a new MMO within a few months, maybe even weeks, of it launching. The recent implementation of Patch 1.2 on Trion World's ArcheAge alpha servers brought this topic to the forefront of discussion among fans of the game. |

Mass Effect 4: Bioware Looking for Input Via Survey Posted: 15 Jul 2014 04:57 AM PDT Bioware's Mike Gamble has posted a link on his Twitter account asking fans of the Mass Effect franchise to complete a short survey to "help us make the next Mass Effect game the best one yet". The survey asks players to identify games they have and are playing as well as their favorite aspects of the games they play. |

Guild Wars 2: The Neverending Story (Journal) Posted: 13 Jul 2014 04:31 PM PDT I'll admit to not being entirely on board with the new-fangled story Journal as it was posted on the Guild Wars 2 site a month ago. "Repeatable" was the keyword that most of us latched onto, and there was stuff about "no pounding-signpost-grinding" and "challenge" in there, but I figured I'd wait until it all went live before getting too pumped up about anything. |

General: Game On #49 | Do Raiders Really Matter? Posted: 14 Jul 2014 11:48 AM PDT Another week has come and gone and that means another episode of Game On! This week Chris and Jessica sit down with Belghast of Tales of the Aggronaut and the Aggrochat podcast and Apple Cider Mage of the Justice Points podcast and MapJabbit Wildstar blog. They break down Turbine's assertion that raiders are an extreme minority, Elder Scrolls Online's massive veteran content nerf, and much more. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Executive Producer's Letter Details Second Half of 2014 Posted: 14 Jul 2014 09:23 AM PDT Now that the latest update has been applied to Lord of the Rings Online servers, Executive Producer Aaron "Rowan" Campbell has taken to the game forums to talk about what players can expect in the balance of 2014. Most notably, Campbell tells players that the much-anticipated Beorning class is in alpha testing and on track for deployment later this year. |
General: 6 Enduring MMOG Beliefs I Just Don't Get Posted: 13 Jul 2014 04:13 PM PDT The MMOG space has never lacked for differences of opinion. This isn't a problem; it would be pretty dull without them. What's more, we generally recognize that it's normal for at least some other people's views to diverge from our own. However, this is an expression of my rational side. At the gut feeling level, certain things with which I disagree are considerably harder for me to "get" than others. |
