Chrome Extensions Axed From Chrome Web Store

Posted: 19 Jan 2014 08:43 PM PST

Ad-serving code found within both extensions

Looking for "Add to Feedly" or "Tweet This Page" in the Chrome Web Store? You won't find them now, as Google has removed them for violating Google's TOS. It just so happens that both extensions were created with code that is also used to set up advertisements. While neither extension had more than 100,000 users, those who had adopted Chrome took to forums to level complaints against the removal.

The Wall Street Journal reports (via TechSpot) that reports from users indicated that when either extension as utilized, pop-ups and spam would spring up out of nowhere. As it turns out, both extensions had been sold to outside parties who sifted in the malicious code. Since Google doesn't check out said code after approval, users were stuck with the frustrating ads as a result.

Are you missing either one of those extensions or are you glad to see they're gone?

Facebook Could Be Launching Additional Standalone Mobile Apps in 2014

Expand your Facebook experience with additional apps

Facebook Home failed to catch on the way it was anticipated to, so it appears Facebook is investigating other venues to keep the brand afloat while making it easier for users to access their profile and other information. It looks like the advent of standalone Facebook apps may be upon us.

While Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had made mention of these apps before, inside sources (via TechSpot) say they may finally be rolling out this year. Details are already swirling around "Paper," styled around Flipboard, which would display users' feeds in an easy-to-read manner. If that does well, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to see an app for all of Facebook's separate functionalities in the future.

If these apps do come to fruition, would they make your browsing experience a much tidier one or would you prefer the all-in-one Facebook suite?

Latest DayZ Patch In Its Weird Glory Goes Live January 20th

Experimental DayZ build balances stomach capacity

This may well be the weirdest information you've ever seen in a video game's patch notes. Dean Hall, via PC Gamer, has posted up the pending changelog of a build of DayZ he and his team have been working on over the last few weeks. Included are some pretty bizarre alterations that would sound mighty weird to anyone who hasn't actually played the game.

The build goes live tomorrow, January 20th, and includes some zany-sounding updates like the following:

- Added stuffed notifier (instead of sickness when full up)
- Saline transfusion doesn't refill full blood
- Balanced stomach capacity

Of course, all of those updates are pretty delectable for those who dare to enter the austere world of DayZ. Additional updates such as allowing character names to be edited in the main menu, berry picking, and the harbor town of Svetloyarsk make this patch something to look forward to, as bizarre as it sounds. Let us know if it delivers in the comments below.
