The Stream Team: How many is too many edition, September 9 - 15, 2013 Posted: 09 Sep 2013 07:00 AM PDT Filed under: Events (Real-World), Game Mechanics, Massively Meta, Hands-On, Livestream, Miscellaneous, The Stream Team, Player-Generated Content Holy smokes! I just recently counted how many MMOs I had loaded up on my main hard drive, and the number seriously gave me pause. I have, as of this moment, 25 different MMOs at my fingertips, beckoning me to play. And that's not even counting the few single-player games and two instances of a completely separate beta install. And I have even already uninstalled some! Can this be normal for gamers? Could I have a problem? Or could I just belong to The Stream Team?I'm going to go with the final answer. In fact, after talking to others on the Massively team, I don't really think I have a problem at all. All those games are there so we can jump in at a moment's notice and entertain you on Massively TV. It's all for the benefit of viewers. And because our HDs are so full, there are plenty of shows available to watch this next week. Take a look at the following schedule and see what tickles your fancy this time around. And because I do obviously need a bit of intervention, help select what games I uninstall next. Remember, though, doing so removes said title from my livestreaming line-up! Then share how many you have on your machine. The Daily Grind: What's your favorite Secret World build? Posted: 09 Sep 2013 06:00 AM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Horror, Classes, Game Mechanics, MMO Industry, Opinion, The Daily Grind, The Secret World, Buy-to-Play I logged into The Secret World for the first time in a long time over the weekend. Yeah, the Gilded Rage event brought me back, because there's nothing like a little double AP to sweeten the deal, amirite?Anyway, I was getting reacquainted with the game's skill system and trying to decide on a serviceable build for duoing or maybe some occasional dungeon runs. And then I thought, hey, this would make a good Daily Grind. So there you go. What's your favorite TSW build and why? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind! MMO Week in Review: The King of the Golden Hall Posted: 08 Sep 2013 06:00 PM PDT Filed under: Massively Meta, Week in Review, Miscellaneous At the end of every week, we round up the best and most popular news stories, exclusive features, and insightful columns published on Massively and then present them all in one convenient place. If you missed a big MMO or WoW Insider story last week, you've come to the right post.Bloggers have made a sport of teasing Lord of the Rings Online for its slow and plodding pace through the books' storyline, joking that by the time our characters scale the streets of Edoras, let alone Minas Tirith, we'll be old and grey, but this week Turbine finally granted press a glimpse of the Helm's Deep expansion announced last April. That, along with promises of sales, class overhauls, and beta testing, almost distracted players from the massive server outages early on in the week. Read on for a look at the rest of our top MMO stories. EVE Evolved: Fitting Heavy Assault Cruisers in Odyssey 1.1 Posted: 08 Sep 2013 04:00 PM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, EVE Online, Classes, Expansions, Game Mechanics, Patches, PvP, Opinion, Hands-On, EVE Evolved, Guides, Sandbox The Odyssey 1.1 patch landed this week in EVE Online, introducing several highly requested PvP tweaks and overhauling all of the Command Ships and Heavy Assault Ships. Active shield boosters, armour repairers and medium-sized long range turrets all received sizable buffs, but it's the newly updated Heavy Assault Cruisers that really took my interest. They've historically been used as highly mobile damage-dealers for fleet warfare, but now each has been targeted at a specific combat niche. The Deimos is a brawler for small-scale gang warfare, the Ishtar is a heavy drone platform, the Cerberus turns frigates into molten poop, and the Eagle is... well, nobody can really figure out what to do with the Eagle yet.All of the HACs have been augmented with a new role bonus that reduces the signature radius penalty of activating a microwarpdrive by 50%. This may seem pretty weak, but in practice it makes the ships a lot more viable in PvP. Activating your microwarpdrive will normally increase your signature radius size by 500%, making you a hell of a lot easier to hit and increasing the damage you take from missiles. The speed boost will counteract this to some degree, but it takes a while to reach that speed, and you're very vulnerable in the interim. Reducing this to only 250% means you get all the defensive benefit of the speed increase without much of the vulnerability. In most cases, you'll actually take less damage with the microwarpdrive on than off. In this week's EVE Evolved, I put together PvP setups for the at the newly revamped Deimos, Ishtar, Cerberus, and Eagle Heavy Assault Cruisers. Stick and Rudder: On Star Citizen's cash shop Posted: 08 Sep 2013 12:00 PM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Business Models, MMO Industry, New Titles, News Items, Sandbox, Crowdfunding, Stick and Rudder, Star Citizen, Buy-to-Play Remember last time when I said that Cloud Imperium's decision to release a playable pre-alpha Star Citizen module was a risky move?Forget that. I mean, it still kinda was, but this particular story had a happy ending. Star Citizen's first public-facing in-game deliverable has been live for over a week now, and for all intents and purposes it was a smashing success.
