Massively Exclusive Episode 2 of Mabinogi the Saga Iria
Welcome, ladies and gentleman, to another riveting installment of storytime with Mabinogi. You might remember that last week, we got an exclusive look at episode one of Mabinogi's Iria Saga, and things were not off to a terribly smooth start for our protagonists. After going through a great deal of trouble to assist the shaman Akule in a magic ritual, the player stand-in discovers his work is for naught as a gargantuan black dragon interrupts the ceremony. Akule presumably sacrificed himself to allow our hero to escape, charging him with looking after his apprentice Millia. Bummer.

Considering episode two is called "Hero's Return: The Trap," we don't have high hopes that things are about to get much better. But we don't want to spoil anything for you. If you're a Mabinogi player, remember that you can follow along with the Iria Saga in-game as well. But if you're just here for the story, then click on past the cut to see episode two in full.

Activision Blizzard makes up with the ESA

Activision Blizzard makes up with the ESA
After taking its toys and going home in 2008, Activision Blizzard has kissed and made up with the Entertainment Software Association as announced in a press release this morning.

The ESA is not only in charge of organizing E3 each year, but it's also seen as the political arm of the gaming industry. This, along with the joining of Tencent (owner of Riot Games, Epic Games, and the ZAM Network), brings the ESA's membership to 37 companies.

Does this mean we'll see more of Blizzard's goodies at E3 while other large companies are skipping the industry expo? Could this be an act of desperation on the part of Activision Blizzard or the ESA? Let us know in the comments!

The Stream Team Building an ark edition, July 8 14, 2013
You know, most people complain about the rain. Me? I love it! I love dancing in it, washing the car in it... I just plain love it, even more than sunshine. But there reaches a point when you can have too much of a good thing (except MMOs, of course!). So since the rain doesn't seem to want to let up, and I'm not keen on getting flooded (again) and being without power and the ability to game (again), I am looking into building myself an ark!

Of course, this ark needs to be a bit more sophisticated than previous versions. I need my electricity! Who cares about lights? I just need to get my gaming system up and running while I float along. Life without MMOs, either playing or watching on Massively TV, just wouldn't be a happy place! And I, of course, want all my Stream Team buddies along for the ride. Hm, maybe I better plan for a bigger ark...

The Bazaar of the Four Winds content update for Guild Wars 2 will hit live servers tomorrow, and players will have a plethora of new activities and areas to explore. In addition to wandering through a new area called the Labyrinthine Cliffs, the denizens of Tyria can engage in a competitive obstacle course race, the aptly named Belcher's Bluff drinking game, a crystalline scavenger hunt, and Skyhammer, an asura-themed PvP map.

The achievement system is also undergoing a major overhaul with a flashy new UI and a brand-spanking-new reward system, which will shower gifts upon the game's most dedicated players. Take a hop past the cut to witness all of the changes in our video preview of the Bazaar of the Four Winds.

Gambling MMO Dragon's Tale prepares for beta

Dragon's Tale gambles on a beta
Gambling? On the internet? Perish the thought! Or don't perish it, because eGenesis would like to invite you to give it a try. The maker of A Tale in the Desert announced that it will begin the beta for Dragon's Tale on July 12th.

Dragon's Tale isn't your traditional internet casino, however. There are quests, leveling, a mentor system, and a political system similar to A Tale in the Desert. It looks as though there will be plenty of minigames that swing between luck and skill, including cow tipping, fishing, and maze running. Players can use credit cards and Bitcoins to gamble, and the client will be available on Windows, Linux, and OSX.

Lead Designer Andrew Tepper hopes that Dragon's Tale will create a bonding experience between players: "The first thing that stuck me about online gambling today is that it's a pretty lonely experience, typically one player in a web browser, watching a 2-D slot machine. I've taken what I've learned in the last 15 years building MMOs and for the first time applied that to gambling. I've created an intensely social world where players can explore the game world together, share techniques, and rely on each other as they level up by completing gambling quests."

The Daily Grind: What's the first thing you do when you come back to an MMO?

The Secret World - Demon dude
I went back to The Secret World this past weekend, and it wasn't just for the double AP. It's been six months or so since I played seriously, and despite its flaws, there's no other MMO quite like Funcom's horror-conspiracy opus. And I've missed it!

Initially I was hesitant to come back because of the game's rather complex skill system. I figured that all of the new (to me) auxiliary weapons plus the fact that I'd be more than a little rusty at combat would add up to a frustrating experience. That wasn't the case, though, and I was back in the swing of things and knocking out missions left and right in fairly short order.

I spent some time tidying up my inventory first, though, as I always do when I return to an MMO after a long absence. What about you, Massively readers? Do you have any particular I'm-back rituals that mark your return to a game? What's the first thing you do when you come back?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

              March of War storms Steam
Tired of the same-old World War II video games that seem to add little new to the genre? March of War may be the fresh approach that will revitalize your interest in the era. The multiplayer strategy game is set in an alternate 1940s timeline when dieselpunk powers war machines fight on the front lines for five factions. It's also episodic, free, and available right now through Steam's early access program.

The game's isometric view puts you in the commander's seat as you fight against other players in a turn-based format. The first episode, World Aflame, is the core game; further episodes will be released on a monthly basis. Steam players who jump in right now will receive a welcome pack with infantry and special command abilities.

March of War will eventually be released on multiple platforms this summer, including PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. We've got the release trailer after the break.

At the end of every week, we round up the best and most popular news stories, exclusive features, and insightful columns published on Massively and then present them all in one convenient place. If you missed a big MMO or WoW Insider story last week, you've come to the right post.

On the eve of its Bazaar of the Four Winds content update, Guild Wars 2 has set for itself a mighty challenge. This week, ArenaNet formally announced a two-week cadence for living world patches, waffled on the likelihood of an expansion, promised that classic Guild Wars locations are doable within the living story, and offered hints about the game's revamped rewards system (on which we had earlier speculated). Can Anet pull it all off?

Read on for a peek at the rest of this week's top MMO stories.

EVE Evolved: The battle of Z9PP-H caught on camera

If you're the kind of person who loves reading about the political shenanigans that go on inside EVE Online, you should be aware that a colossal war has erupted in the wake of the Odyssey expansion. The expansion redistributed the value of nullsec moons and gave the two largest alliances in the game, the Reddit-based TEST Alliance and Something Awful-spawned GoonSwarm Federation, a good excuse to go to full-scale war. Allies have piled in on either side, and nullsec has erupted into full-scale region takedowns, spy-jacking, and more of the lovely political tomfoolery we love to hear about.

EVE News 24 has been doing a good job of keeping players up to date on what's happening in nullsec, and its reporters are not the only ones keeping tabs on the war. Streamer Mad Ani has been setting up cameras in strategically important locations throughout the contested regions and providing live coverage of huge battles whenever they happen. A few days ago, the war came to a head in what could have been the deciding battle of the entire Fountain invasion. Over 4,000 people watched the stream as TEST's entire capital fleet of over 100 carriers was taking a pounding in Z9PP-H, when suddenly the server crashed and disconnected everyone in the fight.

In this week's EVE Evolved, I look at what happened in the battle of Z9PP-H, how CCP crashed its biggest piece of PR in months, and how player livestreams are changing the face of EVE Online for the better.

Darkfall market system coming this week
Darkfall's getting a new market system in this week's patch, according to a developer blog recently posted on the game's official website. Markets will initially be available in the four NPC capital cities, but Aventurine plans to add more in the future.

Markets feature an order system, so players can place and fulfill both buy and sell orders, or even use the new system for player-created quests. "New players looking to earn gold can work to fulfill buy orders that are available," AV explains.

You can browse the market from anywhere in the game world simply by using the appropriate GUI button, but placing and fulfilling orders will require a trip to one of the capital market buildings.

                  CubeWorld
Cube World, developed by Picorama, is billed as a voxel-based, randomly generated, action-adventure RPG with borderless worlds and infinite character progression. It's not exactly an MMO, but it's pretty darn close: It also has a crafting system, PvP combat, and cooperative play via LAN or the web. If that sounds like something you would enjoy, you're in luck: Cube World's paid alpha phase has officially begun.

Well, sort of. In order to get into the alpha, you'll need to pay for the game via the Picorama shop. In order to use the shop, you'll need to register. And thanks to what the developer claims are regular denial-of-service attacks, registrations are currently disabled. Foiled again.

In the meantime, you can get an extremely limited taste of the game's looks by checking out its mini demo.

The long-running Ragnarok Online will seek to reinvent itself on browsers in the near future. Chinese developer Dream² acquired the license to remake the title into Ragnarok Online: Prequel (or New Ragnarok Online, according to its splash screen).

Ragnarok Online: Prequel will be quite familiar to fans of the franchise. It's currently in testing for an unknown release date. The browser version is not to be confused with Ragnarok Online 2, which recently released in Europe.

Ah, I had some glorious times in Global Agenda, so long ago that Seraphina Brennan still worked here and we struggled to livestream the game to do a giveaway or two. The developers prepared some pre-made level 30 characters for us, complete with Massively logo holograms emblazoned across the chests. Sera moved on, livestreaming has become easier, and I haven't returned to the game nearly as much as I've wanted to. I'm not sure why. The game is free-to-play, and I have been enjoying online shooter titles more over the last several months.

Then, when I told my boss that I wanted to check it out again, she told me that it was a good idea especially since Global Agenda 2 was announced late last year. What? This news must have passed underneath my very broad radar! Still, I was eager to revisit my old characters and see if the game is still as fun as I remember, so I spent the last week playing the game -- that is, when I wasn't fighting bugs in the game. And I mean technical bugs, not the good, scary space kind.
