Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances Full Review

By Daniel Dalton

Let Us Begin!

The focus of Command and Conquer: Tiberium Wars is to build a base and expand while protecting yourself from the hostile parties around you. When you choose your faction you are asked to pick a sector of the map where your first base will be (it doesn't really make a difference where you go, but the choice is nice).

53533 500x375 image028

A Whole New World

You might be overwhelmed coming into a screen like this but the game does a good job of assimilating you into everything through its innovative tutorial. You're taught the in-game mechanics and basics through a series of quests while simultaneously building your base up. Before you know it you're ready for your first conflict.

53529 500x375 image023

Who’s Next?

You are tasked to destroy a nearby Forsaken (an NPC enemy) camp with your newly developed army. It's an easy job and they're soon done with. New Forsaken camps pop up around your area periodically and you are encouraged to go out and exterminate them when you have the resources available to do so. Through fighting the Forsaken you are given an insight to how the PvP system of the game works. Every player has offensive and defensive capabilities. To attack another player you must first destroy whatever defensive set-up he has going on. It is very much a case of rock-paper-scissors. Infantry defence are hard countered by vehicle offense, which in turn can be countered by certain units. This keeps the PvP dynamic, there's no one unit that is the answer to everything. In order to succeed at the higher levels one must scout his or her target and build the right unit to exploit the weaknesses in their defence. A target whose defence primarily consists of MG Nests (anti-infantry cannons that are also good against air) can be countered effectively by massing ground infantry units.

53528 500x375 image022

The Calm Before The Storm – Rally The Troops

The incentives to attacking other people, apart from showing your superiority, are the spoils of the battle. You can plunder Tiberium from your enemies, the driving force of the C&C world that is used to make everything and anything. However, there are also  three other almost redundant resources, Crystal, Energy and Credits. The primary way you get these resources is harvesting them from your home base. Harvesters can be placed on Tiberium and Crystal fields to collect the respective resources. Power Plants are placed next to resource fields to collect Energy. Credits are farmed from Refineries. The Silo determines how much Tiberium and Crystal you can stock up before you have to use it. The game keeps you coming back to regularly collect your resources because each Harvester or Power Plant can only stockpile a certain amount of Tiberium or Energy before you have to manually collect them to continue production.

53521 500x375 image018 2

So… What Now?

After you're all set up the game loses a lot of its pace. There is only so much you can do in one sitting before you have to return another time to collect more resources and utilise them in building more of the same thing. Some people appreciate a slower paced game, others not so much. After a while I found myself wondering, "What now?" I realised all I would be doing is more of the same stuff. Collect more resources, get more army units, attack more people. After completing one quest which tasked ten skirmishes against The Forgotten I was excited to see what my next quest would be.

53512 500x375 image012 2

This Again?

There is no sense of progression when you are only doing more of the same. This would be alright if the PvP was competitive and there was actually some kind of strife between players. However, there isn't. It's one extreme or the other. Either you're on your own without an Alliance (guild) and you cannot get out of the rut that other players leave you in through constant harassment or you join the largest Alliance in your region and you as a collective dominate completely. Smaller Alliances have no chance of getting a one up over the bigger, already established ones because of how the system works. The end result is you find servers where there is one Alliance reigning supreme over everything else and there is no competition between the players. The only people left are the ones in the Alliance or those who get frustrated and leave eventually.

53500 500x375 image004 2

Final Verdict: Fair

While the interface is very user friendly and the tutorial does a good job of getting you into the game, once you actually get there you come to realize there isn't all that much to do. The gameplay focuses on you doing more of the same thing indefinitely. Due to the way the guild system in the game is, there is more competition between the player and the third NPC party (The Forgotten) than there is between other players. The game becomes akin to Farmville with Command and Conquer skins. If you're a casual gamer not looking for much more than something to keep you occupied, then C&C: Tiberium Alliances won't disappoint.

War of Legends launches Summer Strike speed server competition
Over $200,000 worth of in-game rewards up for grabs

Wednesday 8th August 2012, Cambridge, UK – Jagex, the UK's largest independent games studio, today launches a brand new Summer Strike competition for War of Legends featuring epic prizes for players who are up to the challenge.

Running for the next 30 days, Summer Strike features a sped up version of the game and a highly competitive environment designed to challenge players, pitting them against one another in the ultimate race against time to discover who the ultimate legends are! All player travel, building, troop training and research times will be accelerated, allowing players to build quicker, train faster and wage war against their enemies before they've had time to fully prepare.

The Summer Strike prizes are unbeatable! They include the exclusive Tyrant armour as well as the ability to help Jagex shape and design some brand new and exclusive Legends for the top winners. There will be multiple chances to win as prizes will be given for individual rankings, along with the highest ranked cities, Legends and alliances.

Green continued "Each of the three overall winners will have the chance to help us design an exclusive new Legend. They'll be able to have a say on everything from the cosmetic look of the character right down to their strengths and weaknesses, as well the artefact and mount that the Legend uses.  We've never given away any prize like this before, so we really want our community to get as excited about this as we are."

Ragnarok Online Begins War Of Emperium

Posted: 08 Aug 2012 12:05 PM PDT

Gravity Interactive has launched a new economic battle event in Ragnarok Online.

War of Emperium, announced last week, opens up the availability to the Hall of the Abyss through dimensional cracks discovered within the Guild Halls. In order to win control, players must purchase Castle Investments, which will be available during a period of time each game day. Players can invest anywhere from 10,000 zeny to 2,000,000 zeny, and each realm will be tallied individually. Those who invest the most control the Halls of Abyss, a solo and group area for players above level 135.

Gravity Interactive also publishes ROSE Online and Dragon Saga.

RAGNAROK ONLINE ENTERS A NEW AGE OF WAR

Can Players Really Afford The War of Emperium?

Marina Del Rey, California -August 8, 2012 – Gravity Interactive, a publisher of exciting massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), announced today the start of a new event for their highly lauded MMORPG, Ragnarok Online. Originally a subscription title, Ragnarok Online has been free to play for two years. Recently Classic Servers returned for Ragnarok Online’s long nine year history which gives it a polish few other free to play games can approach! Players can register for a free WarpPortal account at http://www.playragnarok.com/

Show Me The Money! Eerie, unrecognizable sounds have been heard within the Guild Halls. Thus, Rune-Midgard scientists were dispatched to investigate the curious noises. Their findings rocked the foundation of the world – literally! The discovery of dimensional cracks leading to an alternative dimension deep within the ancient castle was an unexpected boon. Quickly, Cat-Hand agents offered to help maintain the dimensional cracks, which have been established as leading to an area now nicknamed Hall of Abyss.

But Rune-Midgard wasn’t ready to give up their coveted prize so easily! Finally, after heated debate between the Rune-Midgard Kingdom and Cat-Hand agents, it was decided to leave ownership of the Abyss in the hands of the guilds.for a price!

“Players will now compete rigorously to own the Hall of Abyss, even temporarily, but in this war might doesn’t make right,” said Jason Heimdallr Koerperich, Ragnarok Online Producer at Gravity Interactive. “Instead, the War of Emperium will be an economic battle, where the highest bidders will lay claim to the new zone!”

Castle Investments will be available for a short period of time per game date, and total investments will be updated every five hours. Cat-Hand agents will be scattered throughout the castle to collect funds. Players can invest the minimum of 10,000 zeny (the in-game currency of Ragnarok Online) up to a maximum of 2,000,000 zeny. Each realm will have their individual totals tallied separately, so guilds compete among known enemies to hold control of the new coveted territory.

The Halls of Abyss is aimed at players 135 or up, and provides both solo and group content. Players can learn more, see the latest screen shots of Abyss, and much more at the official Ragnarok Online Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/playragnarok and share their experiences and strategies with fellow players!

The delicate seals that protect the world from spilling into complete chaos weaken and break, and only the knowledge and power from the age of myth can save Midgard from certain doom. Can you and your allies push back the threat of total annihilation and protect Midgard from the final Ragnarok? Join now at Play Ragnarok Online!

SCARLET LEGACY HEADS TO THE SPIRIT WORLD

Huge Lore Update Includes Increased Level Cap

Sunnyvale, Calif. (August 08, 2012) – Leading online game publisher GamesCampus (www.GamesCampus.com), has added a new storyline and increased the level cap for the popular fantasy MMORPG, Scarlet Legacy. Travel up the slopes of Mount Hua Pond, and discover an ongoing battle that never ceases, even after death! Players can begin their climb at www.ScarletLegacy.com, and race to the top of the mountain and to level 75.

“We’re really excited to introduce the next chapter in the Scarlet Legacy story. It’s going to be an exciting time in the game, for new players and veterans,” said Hubert Yee, Head of Marketing at GamesCampus. “The new lore comes packed with numerous game improvements, including the ability to level up from 70 to 75!”

500 years ago, the world of Scarlet Legacy was split into the Demon Realm and the Human Realm to prevent the demons tribe from growing. Thousands of soldiers had been sent to the boundary (Mount Hua Pond) by the Realm of Heaven to protect the human world. Though two realms fought tirelessly, the Demon Realm continued to grow. As a last resort the Heavenly Realm made the difficult choice to seal away Mount Hua Pond and trapped thousands of their own soldiers.

In the present time, the Realm of Heaven has sent Jenny to free the trapped spirits. Yuna, her childhood friend, vows to stop her from unsealing the terrifying Mount Hua Pond. At the same time, the Demon General Zayden is planning on unsealing Mount Hua Pond to use the Demons trapped inside to invade the Human Realm!

An additional 32 Stances have been added to the game, including new Advanced Stances. Over 120 quests have been added, many involving Mount Hua Pond. High level drops include four new Purple level 75 sets and four new Golden sets. 90 crafting recipes are ready to be discovered, resulting in over 100 new items.

Practice new abilities in the Mount Hua Pond Forbidden Tower, the Sky Tower Hellfire Pass, or dive into new dungeons including Burning Lands, Thunder Tower, Sky Tower: Arcane Sanctum and Sky Tower: Altar of Yin-Yang. As always, players can look forward to an updated pet system, and the continuation of the Princess System, with new dialogue from level 71 to 75.

Scarlet Legacy offers tactical combat with stylishly cinematic animation, plenty of character customization options, and numerous PvP modes and battlefields. There are four classes to choose from but each has access to multiple unique talent trees, bonus granting Martial Arts combat Stances, and evolving skills which allow for far more personalized progression. Scarlet Legacy is a complete MMORPG with crafting profession skills, mounts, pet customization, and mutation systems, and dozens of in-world mini-games.

RF ONLINE RETURNS TRIUMPHANTLY TO NORTH AMERICA

GamesCampus Launching English Servers This Month

Sunnyvale, Calif. (August 07, 2012) – Leading online game publisher GamesCampus (www.GamesCampus.com), today blows the door open on a mighty secret: the successful return of the PVP centric sci-fi MMORPG, RF Online. A mix of fantasy with a healthy dose of science fiction, Rising Force Online pits players into a massive three-faction nonstop battle that equips them with everything from swords to nuclear weapons to bring the opposing factions to their knees! Players can sign up now for a GamesCampus account at rfonline.gamescampus.com

“GamesCampus is proud to partner with CCR to bring RF Online to a global audience in English, and completely free to play!” said Hubert Yee, Head of Marketing at GamesCampus. “The two companies have been working closely together for months and we’re very excited to begin service for Rising Force Online in late August.”

RF Online features three distinct races: Bellato, with pointed ears, use Force (magic) as their primary weapon. They rely on heavy mechs known as MAU’s for a variety of combat situations. Cora are similar to Bellato in appearance, though larger, and prefer to use their Force to call and tame creatures known as Animus to aid in their victories. Accretia are a race of cyborgs, completely mechanical, and unable to use Force. Instead they rely on technological feats including both close range weapons and ranged combat such as rocket launchers.

Prefer to fight with words over weapons? RF Online’s deep political system wants YOU! Each of the three races is led by a political leader, the Archon, who serves a one week term. An Archon may appoint up to eight councillors to aid him or her in decision making. If the politicians cannot woo the vote of the population, the player with the highest PVP ranking will be automatically slotted into the open position, proving might does make right in the world of RF Online.

RF Online seamlessly fuses together the world of fantasy and technology as never seen before. Whether building a reputation for ruthless player versus player (PVP) action, pursuing a political career and becoming Archon of a faction, or creating an economical stranglehold on the production and consumption of minerals, play RF Online the way you want to. Compete in massive realm versus realm versus realm (RvRvR) as three unique factions vie for control of resources and the Holystone Keeper. Only headquarters and settlement towns are safe from enemy encroachment: watch your back, or someone will be sure to stab it.
