Xbox 360 Sales Reach 66 Million, Kinect 18 Million

Posted: 09 Jan 2012 08:37 PM PST

Microsoft didn't have a whole lot to reveal for gamers during its Consumer Electronics Show press conference tonight -- there was certainly no sign of the Xbox 360's successor, as one of last year's many rumors suggested there would be. There was, however, a promotional video released in conjunction with the event that touts some impressive figures for Microsoft's videogame business, including the latest sales figures for Xbox 360 and Kinect.

The video states that there have been 66 million Xbox 360 systems sold, though given the nature of the video, there was no mention of whether that is the number of systems shipped or sold through to customers. The same can be said for the Kinect figure shared: the sensor is up to 18 million units sold.

Netflix Coming to Vita, Possibly as Soon as Day One

PlayStation Vita

Just as it has with other game platforms, Netflix support is coming to the PlayStation Vita.

The announcement was made during Sony's Consumer Electronics Show press conference this evening by Kaz Hirai, the man who is reportedly on his way to becoming president of Sony (though Sony says it has yet to make any such decision). Details on Netflix were scant, not that there is a great deal to know. The one key detail -- when it's coming -- was not put in stone, but Hirai did say Netflix is working to have an app ready for the Vita's launch on February 22.

Interplay Loses Rights to Make a Fallout MMO

Fallout Online

Should a Fallout MMO ever be made, don't expect to see Interplay's name on it. A settlement has been agreed to in the lawsuit between Bethesda and Interplay which results in the latter's license to create such a game being nullified. Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media announced the details of the settlement today, and it sounds if it largely got what it was seeking.

Rumors of a Fallout MMO from Interplay began circulating way back in 2006. The existence of the game was confirmed in 2008 along with word that one of the franchise's original creators, Christopher Taylor, would be involved with its development.

Sony Says it Hasn't Made Kaz Hirai President Just Yet

Kaz Hirai

Following a report late last week that Kaz Hirai had been chosen to replace Howard Stringer as president of Sony, the company has since made it clear that no such decision has been made.

"Certain media reports were published on January 7, 2012 regarding Sony Corporation's executive officers' appointments," said an official statement issued over the weekend. "Sony Corporation has made no announcement in this regard and nothing has been determined at this time."

Vita 3G Data Plans Detailed by AT&T

Vita 3G

With the launch of PlayStation Vita just over a month away, AT&T has announced the specifics of its data plans that will be available to those who purchase the system's 3G-equipped model in the United States.

Anyone with a smartphone on AT&T's network will be mostly prepared for the two plans available. One offers 250MB per month for $14.99, and the other offers 2GB (a cap eight times higher) for $25. Both will thankfully be available on a month-by-month basis, so you won't be forced into a contract of any sort. This all comes on top of the $50 premium that Sony plans to charge for the 3G model; the Wi-Fi-only model will cost $249.99 as compared with the $299.99 price tag for the 3G system.

I Am Alive, Alan Wake Included in XBLA's Next House Party

Alan Wake's American Nightmare

For the second year in a row, Microsoft will promote a handful of Xbox Live Arcade games by including them in the Summer of Arcade-esque XBLA House Party promotion. There aren't many official details just yet, but we do know the lineup of games we'll be seeing released over the course of a four-week span.

Without any sort of accompanying announcement, a House Party 2012 trailer has been released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. As discovered by Joystiq, it shows four games in all: Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Warp, Nexuiz, and I Am Alive.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

X-COM fans were pleasantly surprised last week when it was revealed that a second new XCOM game is in the works and, unlike the other, is a strategy game. Following the release of some early details last week, we now have the first screenshot of the game in action.

As seen in the image above, combat takes place in the style of a turn-based strategy game that should feel much more natural to series fans than that of 2K Marin's upcoming XCOM first-person shooter.
