Tailor, Chef & Blacksmith Trades Revealed for Upcoming 3D Fantasy MMORPG

SANTA CLARA, Calif.  – Nov. 10, 2011 – Aeria Games, a leading global publisher of free-to-play online games, today released new details about the three profession-based classes available for characters in Lime Odyssey: The Chronicles of Orta, its upcoming 3D massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). One of Lime Odyssey's most unique and well-developed features is a dual-class system that allows a character to adopt both a battle-themed role and a professional trade.

In Lime Odyssey, players assign a race, battle-themed class, and domestic profession to their new character. Available professions are the handy Chef, skilled Tailor and rugged Blacksmith. Once in-game, players can switch between their character's battle class and profession at any time with the push of a button. Both the battle and professional traits are equally important to a character's survival as they journey across the magical continent of Orta in search of Lime.

Any race can adopt one of these professions in Lime Odyssey: The Chronicles of Orta:

  • Blacksmith – Gather metal, ore and wood extracts as you travel. Learn to forge armor and powerful weaponry for you and your friends.
  • Chef – Search the land for various fruits, berries, meats and other ingredients. Cook up potions and meals to strengthen and heal your party.
  • Tailor – Stitch together leather and cloth armors for the less hearty races from animal furs and other materials you find in Orta.

Gather the required materials then switch to your profession class. Your character will whip out a set of trade-specific tools and begin crafting before your eyes! Obtain hundreds of profession-themed quests, ranging from simple tasks to complex assignments. Each profession's end product becomes either a helpful tool or a viable commodity for trade.

Interested players can learn more about the game and sign up to participate in upcoming alpha and beta tests for Lime Odyssey at: http://limeodyssey.aeriagames.com.

New data shows F2P market continuing to grow

Posted: 10 Nov 2011 11:57 AM PST

The latest MMO Games Market Report from Newzoo has revealed some impressive facts about the growing free-to-play MMO market in North America.

Free-to-play MMOs have increased player’s spending by 24% to a total of $1.2 billion in the United States, pushing the free-to-play market’s share to a total of 47% of the entire MMO market (the remaining 53% belonging to subscription-based MMOs).

Demographically, U.S. MMO gamers are 67% male, 33% female, with 15% of gamers being over age 36 – the rest fall into the 10-20 (31%) and 21-35 (54%) age range.

The fastest growing games in the United States free-to-play market currently, the report reveals, are League of Legends, Wizard101, and Age of Conan.

Free-to-Play MMO Game Spending Increases 24% to $1.2bn in U.S.

Free-to-play share of total U.S. MMO spending increases from 39% to 47%.

F2P more popular in European (53%), Asian (51%) and Emerging (59%) Markets.

Individual game revenues under pressure in increasingly competitive MMO market.

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, November 9, 2011 – Newzoo today released a new 2011 MMO Games Market Report that shows consumers across thirteen key Western, Asian and Emerging markets, spend a total of $4.9bn on free-to-play (F2P) MMO games. This year, Americans are spending 24% more on F2P MMO games than in 2010, totaling $1.2bn or 47% of all MMO spending. This  share is significantly higher than the 39% in 2010, but lower than European (53%), Asian (51%) and Emerging (59%) markets. Despite growth figures in consumer spending, individual games and publishers are struggling to grow, or maintain revenue levels and market share, specifically in Western markets.  Considering that the number of high-quality MMO games available to consumers has doubled since the start of 2010, Newzoo projects 2012 will be a year of consolidation. The increasing number of Asian online game companies seeking expansion outside of Asia could play a key role in this.

Fierce competition: challenges and opportunities

"The MMO games market is rapidly turning global. It has become increasingly important for MMO developers and publishers think carefully about which titles to publish in what  territories and how to adapt  the games according to local preferences, including monetization models that work best. Recent lay-offs and the sudden death of Lego Universe are serious warnings for the MMO games industry . Success will also strongly depend on how MMO companies extend their unique gameplay and IP across other game platforms, specifically mobile.." according to Peter Warman, CEO of games market research firm Newzoo and co-author of the  2011 MMO Games Market Report. The report compares key regions and provides country-specific data to support decision makers.  A summary of key facts and insights are highlighted in the free Newzoo Trend Report: "MMO Games, Massively Popular"

A global market with local preferences

Consumer preferences differ significantly across regions and countries in terms of  business model, genres, as well as playing browser or client MMO games. For instance 24% of Asian MMO gamers only play client-based MMO games, a figure that drops to 15% in Emerging Markets. In all regions, approximately one-third of gamers play both browser as well as client-based MMOs. Very different MMO games top the charts in U.S., Europe and Latin America when it comes to the fastest-growing F2P MMO games. According to iQU tracking data of 80M online gamers across the globe, World of Tanks (Wargaming) leads Europe including Russia, League of Legends (Riot Games) tops the U.S. chart and Shaiya (AeriaGames) leads in Latin America. More Asian companies are expected to enter the charts soon. Chinese browser-MMO games publisher Koram Games is a typical example: not as well known as Nexon or ShandaGames, but already grossing more than $12M of its $180M revenues in English-speaking countries.

Other key facts:

  • Americans spend 26M hours per day in total playing MMO games.
  • In 2011, total consumer spend on MMO games in the U.S. will grow 3% compared to 2010, from  $2.5bn to $2.6bn.
  • Free-to-play MMO revenues for seven key EU countries totals $1.1bn. Emerging Markets Russia, Brazil and Mexico spend $0.4bn. Korea and China combined spend  $2.2bn on Free-to-play MMOs.
  • 84% of U.S. MMO gamers plays browser-based MMOs. Almost half of these consumers also play client-based MMOs.
    • 37% of F2P and 35% of P2P MMO gamers prefer Sci-Fi/Space themed MMO games.

Eden Eternal Review

By Ange Perdu

Eden Eternal is a 3D anime style fantasy MMORPG set on a war torn continent where players become mysterious beings with incredible magical powers. Heroes serve as Eternal Guardians fighting the evil consuming the once peaceful world. Complete challenging quests and explore while slowly discovering the true origin of the race that emerged from the blue crystals. Kill beasts lurking around local villages or battle other players in fierce duels. Conquer dungeons with friends. Slay hundreds of monsters and bosses. Players can use any weapon, spell, or combative move of their choice by unlocking all 15 distinct classes and swapping freely. Find a sweetheart or summon pets to assist in combat.

Becoming an Eternal Guardian, the Gameplay

Heroes or Eternal Guardians begin their adventure in a local village near Limestone Mountain. Most of the gameplay involves completing quests and fighting monsters. Similar to other MMOs like Grand Fantasia the storyline is somewhat generic. Quests are given by NPCs scattered throughout the towns. The tasks vary from battling troublesome Mushroids to relying messages back and forth to commanding officers. Many of the missions consist of some form of combat. Collecting raw gemstones might require destroying intimidating Limestone Golems in the process. To accomplish a specific task a particular item may be required. A hammer must be used while fighting certain beasts to gather materials. Blowing a whistle will summon dangerous boss creatures to wage war with.

The duties of an Eternal Guardian are endless. Kill hordes of Forest Imps, defeat Rainbow Angelly swarms, eliminate Eagle Gang Assassins, or sneak into a bandits' secret camp to destroy their supplies. Some quests are repeatable and aid in leveling. XP, coins, rare items, and occasionally fame or an achievement title is earned by completing quests. Players maneuver through the zones of Eden using their mouse, WASD keys, or the convenient auto-run feature by clicking on go from the quest log. Combat is fast-paced and surprisingly fun. Once initiated heroes use a mixture of physical and magical moves to conquer their opponent. Perform the Lightning Web, Fire Bomb, Perforation, Tornado, or Combat Cyclone. Depending on character's class and skill set there's a variety of mesmerizing spells that can be executed.

launcher-2011-06-22-17-28-50-92

Warriors to Warlocks

Eden Eternal features a very unique class system. All players start out as warrior or mage with one heroic trait of their choice. There are 15 different unlockable classes with their own set of cool animated skills. The two meters at the bottom of the screen monitor experience. The first one gauges character XP while the second records class experience which is primarily gained through combat. Since class experience accumulates much faster players usually benefit by changing their hero from warrior to thief and so on. As a hero levels up new classes are unlocked. At any time except during combat Eternal Guardians can switch their current class. The requirements vary depending on a character's level and their previous or related class level reached. Although there are just a handful of skills per class players have the ability to alternate freely between them. In most games users are limited to the battle skills in their specific class. It only takes a quick click on the transform button to change a class. The process of leveling up each class's skills individually is relatively easy but involves a lot of grinding. Killing monsters, repeating quests, and clearing dungeons are necessary for a diverse hero. Players will have to devote a significant amount of time into building up their character. This option makes the game rather addicting. Class talents allow gamers who prefer one particular class over another to master it. Knowledge points are rewarded each time a character gain's a level in their class. These points are used towards specialized talents in the skill window. Continually improve talents to become the most powerful Bard or Shaman around.

launcher-2011-06-17-00-52-00-50

Battle Dogs & Sweethearts

Eternal Guardians do not have to face evil alone. There is a pet companion option that permits heroes to add a Battle Dog in the form of an adorable Pug or massive Tiger. Pets can be trained to heal, attack, or perform tricks once a character reaches level 25. The Soulmate feature allows players to form a relationship and become sweethearts. Unlike other MMOs in this virtual world same-sex soul mates is legal. Players can be sweethearts with guys or girls regardless of their character's gender. It's also free to initiate dating status another cool aspect rarely seen. Couples receive lovers skills for the duration they're together. These skills vary like the Soulmate Instant Heal and give players an advantage during battles or difficult dungeon quests. Lovers can send each other special gifts, messages, and accumulate achievement points. The guild customization feature is also very impressive. Guild members can join their resources to construct their own town in Eden Eternal. Each town can have up to five established crafting structures. Set up farms, mines, altars, alchemy labs, foundries, and a magic pool. Build a monument in the town square. The polished anime-style graphics is similar to Kitsu Saga. There are breathtakingly beautiful backdrops and waterfalls. Guilds are able to create their own hangout spot within the game. Players can set up shops in their Guild Town to sell items to non-members as well.

Travelling Merchants

Items and accessories can be purchased at Merchant Shops or in the Item Mall. The weapons selection is decent. Purchase the Special Broadsword, Equilibrium Staff, Red Copper Bow, Scout Light Shield, Shell-Splitter Axe, Silver Scout Dagger, Versatile Mace, Highland Bow, Knight's Shield, and the coveted Spell Wand. Weapons sold at shops are usable by all classes. Buy Tiger Fighter Tunics, Water Spirit Robes, Thorn Flower Hats, Gleam Vestments, Defender Helmets, and Sprinter Brigandine. Most of the armor is dull giving Eternal Guardians the same appearance. There are no outfits or costumes that stand out. Players do have the option of using dyes to add color to their apparel. Dyes are available in sage, orange, dark grey, yellow, eggplant, coral, pale blue, and lavender. Mixing color palettes can be amusing for a second or two but it doesn't make up for the lack of garbs in the Merchant Shops. In the Item Mall gamers willing to spend real money can purchase rare pets and hard to acquire trinkets. The Razorback, little Labrador, and Shorthair Cat are available as companions. Adventure threads, Kimono, Eden Spectacles, the Legacy Bow, boosts, and more powerful health tonics are on sale. There's also a cool Holy Seraph's Wings that gives heroes an angelic appearance in the mall.
