| Gears of War 3: Four Ways it Feels Different Than Expected Posted: 15 Aug 2011 06:00 AM PDT The last installment of the Gears of War franchise is drawing near its release date. As such, Epic recently gave us a sneak peek into what we can expect from the campaign (besides the stuff that design director Cliff Bleszinski's showed on his Jimmy Fallon appearance). We fight the Leviathan sea monster from the perspective of Marcus Fenix and the Cole Train -- an opportunity that's new to the franchise. After playing through a generous portion of the first Act, Gears of War 3 feels refreshing in an unexpected sort-of way. The Gears are suffering from mental anguish, fatigue, and a lack of supplies; they aren't as strong as we'd hope. After destroying Jericho, our heroes take to sea vessels, and each military unit has been left to their own fate (if you're unfamiliar with this turn of events, the game offers a quick recap). More than ever, Marcus is haunted by his father's death. But no, he's not really dead -- this discovery becomes the main catalyst for the story. |
