E3 Trailer Shows Off Star Wars Battlefront II – It’s a Breathtaking Cinematic Treasure

E3 Trailer Shows Off Star Wars Battlefront II – It’s a Breathtaking Cinematic Treasure

This is one E3 trailer you do NOT want to miss!

During today’s EA Play, the company showed off some of the first game play from Star Wars Battlefront II. Fans of all-things Star Wars can’t help but be excited.

E3 Trailer shows iconic characters at war

The Battlefront II trailer allows viewers to see some of the IP’s most notable characters including Rey, Kylo Ren and Darth Maul. They are fighting with lightsabers, taking on a clone battalion and dueling one another.

Players will be able to enjoy a single-player story campaign centered on Iden Versio. In addition, players will have the opportunity to play offline, something the first game was criticized for.

Players who preorder the game will be able to take part in the beta this fall as well as get a head start on that. Everyone else will have to wait, thank you very much.

Star Wars Battlefront will be out to the world on November 17th. Will you be playing?

EA Play – Anthem, Madden 18, FIFA 18, Battlefield 1, Need for Speed Payback

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 01:16 PM PDT

EA Play – Anthem, Madden 18, FIFA 18, Battlefield 1, Need for Speed Payback

EA isn’t technically part of next week’s E3 convention in Los Angeles but that doesn’t mean it is skipping some big ass announcements. The first EA Play event is currently ongoing, though will probably be over very soon. Some of EA’s biggest games have gotten the star treatment today. Let’s take a look at the new trailers for each.

EA PLAY 2017

BioWare’s Anthem

BioWare first announced a new IP in 2014. Since then, it has been radio silence — until today, that is. We now at least know the game’s name: Anthem. EA is promising to reveal more about Anthem tomorrow at 2:00 pm Pacific / 5:00 pm Eastern. In the meantime, check out the minute long teaser.

Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 will be going to Russia with the “In the Name of the Tsar” DLC. It will take place during the winter and feature new content including six new maps, two of which are nighttime maps. In addition, players will find new vehicles and weapons as well as the Russian Army.

Need for Speed Payback

Need for Speed Payback has some pretty amazing feels. According to IGN, it sports a real The Fast & the Furious vibe. One of the missions was shown in the demo. Called Highway Heist, it showed a driving chasing a truck on a lonely desert highway. Finally catching up, the driver leaped onto the truck, entered the main part and drove a very snazzy car out of the back in order to escape.

FIFA 18

FIFA 18 is bringing an interesting new twist to the iconic series. Players will be able to embark on a narrative driven single-player campaign, sort of story time in soccer. In fact, those who played FIFA 17 will be able to continue the story of Alex Hunter, the star of last year’s story mode.

Madden 18

Taking a cue from FIFA 18, Madden 18 will also be bringing a story mode to the long-running series.  It is called “Longshot” and follows a hopeful NFL star, though he’s having a tough time making it into the league. From what we can see in the trailer, there will be some college ball in Longshot including Oregon and Texas, both part of the NCAA.

NBA 18

NBA 18 is giving players a chance to take part in the game in two ways. Choose The Streets and you will compete in 5v5 matches on “real world” courts. Alternately, you can choose The Courts which simulates playing in the NBA. Players will be able to customize and upgrade gear. A demo will be released in August with progress carried over to release.

Way Out is a new co-op ONLY adventure game

Way Out, oddly enough, takes place in a prison with characters named Vincent and Leo (a newb and veteran of the system respectively). It can be played online or in local co-op modes. The game is made by the same team behind 2013’s Brothers.

Once upon a time, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap was my Zelda

Posted: 11 Jun 2017 12:00 AM PDT

West One still works with the new version of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. I was expecting as much, but it was a relief anyway. This most loving of remakes would not have felt entirely legitimate if West One had not worked.

But here's something crazy: West111111 still works, too. And this is something I was not expecting. In my childish way, I had assumed that almost nobody else really knew about West111111. I had assumed it was my secret - a thing that I shared with the game itself and with an old friend I had when I was eleven.

West One and West111111 are both codes. More accurately they are WE5T ONE and WE5T 111 111, since the alphabet The Dragon's Trap provides opts for a 5 that doubles as an S. At school - The Dragon's Trap was the great love of my first year of secondary school, which would make this 1990 - my friend Gareth and I had heard rumours about a code for the game's password screen which took you almost to the end of this huge, sprawling adventure. This code was weird, we had heard: there was something not quite right about it. After all, the third Wonder Boy outing is a game in which you rarely play as Wonder Boy himself. The dragon has cursed you and so you play as the various creatures Wonder Boy has been transformed into: a lizard, a mouse, a lion, a hawk, a...um...merman? This code, though, this magical code dropped you into the endgame and gave you a tonne of gold and gear, but it also made you play as Wonder Boy - at least until you found a transformer room. Like I said, the code was weird.

Early impressions of FIFA 18

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 01:00 PM PDT

At a recent event in London, I had the chance to go hands-on with FIFA 18 for a few hours. My early impressions are that it looks better, has some useful gameplay improvements that make a lot of sense, and feels a tad weightier to play.

EA Sports moved FIFA moved over to the Frostbite game engine for FIFA 17, and while it sparked a modest visual upgrade, I didn't feel like it made for a significant leap. FIFA 18 is the game's second effort on the engine, and you can tell. To illustrate the point, EA Sports reps showed Chelsea forward Eden Hazard's face in FIFA 17, and then his face in FIFA 18. It's a marked improvement, with more detail across the board. But I was impressed most by the stadiums, particularly when played during the day. The lighting makes everything look more real, and there's a lot more visual density.

I played a few matches in Boca Juniors' stadium, La Bombonera, and it looks fantastic. You get a great sense of an Argentinian atmosphere, with ticker tape on the pitch, unique flags, banners and even a car on the track that wraps around the field. At the event, creative director Matt Prior said the developers have tried to recreate unique atmospheres at a number of big stadiums in the game - and this extends to how the crowds work.

Need for Speed Payback is still trying to do story, still badly

Posted: 10 Jun 2017 12:48 PM PDT

EA has shown the first footage of the next Need for Speed at its EA Play event ahead of E3 2017 in Los Angeles.

As previously revealed, Payback is set in a faux Vegas called Fortune Valley, and features a storyline with three drivers trying to get revenge against a cartel that runs the town.

To illustrate how this fits into a racing game, developer Ghost Games showed a gameplay trailer, below, featuring a heist mission. Mac and Jess, two of the leads, team up to steal a Koenigsegg Regera supercar from the back of a truck, because reasons.

Madden 18 has its own FIFA Journey-style story mode

E3 technically begins this weekend, too, so keep your eyes peeled from a whole bunch of new games to show up over the next week. I'm still hoping (in vain) for a new Jet Set Radio.

As usual, we've got deals that'll work in the UK, deals that'll work in the US and some deals that will work in both the UK and US, as well as presumably many other places. Let's get started.
