A New, Bizarre Pokemon Crossover is Coming to DS in 2012

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 07:07 PM PST

Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition

A new Pokemon game of sorts has been announced, and it's not at all what you might guess. Rather than starring in a new JRPG, beat 'em up, or something else that could be classified as "expected," Pokemon is being crossed over with Tecmo Koei series Nobunaga's Ambition.

The game's name isn't especially imaginative; it appears to be called Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition based on early images and what little information we have so far. It was announced at the Jump Festa expo taking place this weekend in Japan and will see characters from both franchises joining together.

Review: Terrible APB Gets Resurrected as Mediocre APB: Reloaded

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 06:30 PM PST

Few games get as many second chances as APB, but then again, even fewer games start off with a premise so promising that I actually want to give them a third or fourth chance. I probably just can't get my head around how someone could start with "massive multiplayer cops & robbers graced with the most outrageously versatile character editor ever," and somehow end up with a game that sucks. Now I know how a computer made of explodium feels after Captain Kirk hits it with a bulls***ty paradox. It's just impossible to accept -- no matter how many times I fire the game up just to make sure I didn't somehow imagine the whole lousy reality of it.

So, if you're just catching up with the game and somehow missed the backstory: Realtime Worlds and O.G. Grand Theft Auto guy David Jones had this idea for a GTA-ish MMO where progress is based on actual skill and reflexes rather than making your numbers bigger based on how much time you'd blown killing skeletons or whatever. The gaming world collectively flipped its s*** because this is nothing short of a truly excellent idea we've all been waiting for pretty much ever since God invented computers. Then development ran long; craptons of money were spent; the game finally made its debut; was received with a resounding "meh"; and Realtime Worlds went bankrupt.

XSEED Bringing the Canvas Curse-Like Sumioni to Vita This Spring

As if there weren't already enough fun-looking Vita games to keep on your radar, XSEED Games has announced plans to bring Sumioni: Demon Arts to North America this spring.

Why Was Grand Theft Auto III's Star Silent?

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 12:21 PM PST

Grand Theft Auto III on Android

After celebrating Grand Theft Auto III's 10-year anniversary with the release of an iOS and Android port, Rockstar is now answering a variety of questions fans have about the game. Among those are the obligatory questions about its protagonist, Claude, and the rationale behind him never uttering a word.

Every Grand Theft Auto game since III -- the first to bring the series into 3D -- has featured a star who could speak. Why was Claude made to do a crowbar-free Gordon Freeman impression?

Skyrim Ships 10M, is the Fastest-Selling Game in Steam History

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 10:59 AM PST

Skyrim

While Skyrim players continue to wait for fixes to the various problems they're facing, Bethesda is watching the money roll in from its latest RPG release. Just over a month after its release on November 11, Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media announced The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has shipped 10 million units worldwide.

Keep in mind that is not 10 million units sold, but rather the number shipped to retailers. It's impressive nonetheless, but we also know the actual sales are noteworthy in their own right -- it was the second-best selling in the United States during November according to the NPD Group, and was only about 500,000 units away from surpassing lifetime sales of its predecessor, Oblivion, by the end of the month.

3DS Ambassadors Get Their Free GBA Games Today

Posted: 16 Dec 2011 09:56 AM PST

The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap

3DS Ambassadors in Europe and Japan were notified this week that their ten free Game Boy Advance games would be coming today, December 16. Those in North America didn't get any word on whether the games would be coming today or if the same list of high-quality titles would be offered to them. Luckily all ten games are now available, even to those in the United States.

The ten free games include Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Wario Land 4, and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. That's a much better-looking list overall than the NES games Ambassadors received -- that included games like Yoshi, which probably isn't among many people's ten favorite Nintendo-published NES games.
