General: Weapons of Mythology Announced for GDC Posted: 26 Feb 2015 06:06 AM PST Gamemag will be bringing its Taiwanese MMO, Weapons of Mythology, to this year's Game Developers Conference. Popular on the PC in Taiwan, Gamemag will also be leveraging the console market in the West by making the title cross platform between PC and the PlayStation 4. The game is expected to launch in China and Russia later this year while the PS4 optimization is in progress. To show off Weapons of Mythology, Gamemag has released a new trailer. |
General: Dave Georgeson on Creating New Worlds Posted: 25 Feb 2015 11:24 AM PST All games are hard to make. But when ranking my own personal experiences as a dev, I'd say that single-player games are the most straightforward and predictable of projects (relatively, of course), rescuing failing projects is vastly more complicated, but building MMOs from scratch is the most challenging of all. |

Shroud of the Avatar: Release 15: Unity 5 and Crafting Posted: 25 Feb 2015 03:55 PM PST Starr Long had mentioned during my last visit that they'd start rolling Shroud of the Avatar over to Unity 5 this month. When I bumped into Finn Staber, one of the Shroud developers, at a hub for Austin startups, I wasn't surprised when he told me they'd been working on it. The shocking part was when I asked how much they'd managed to get rolled over for the updated engine over the last two weeks. "All of it," was his reply. |

General: Legacy Quest: Mobile Roguelike Action RPG Dungeon Crawler Posted: 25 Feb 2015 11:18 AM PST The title pretty much says it all in a jumbled mouthful of adjectives drawing on nearly every genre of RPGs out there. Nexon and Socialspiel Entertainment have announced Legacy Quest that is described as a mobile roguelike action RPG dungeon crawler that will be available later in 2015 as a free to play title. If that's not enough to get your heart pounding, it was also announced that Legacy Quest will feature permadeath but that defeated souls will unlock new traits for the next character. |
Posted: 23 Feb 2015 06:22 PM PST People cheat. That fact is nothing new and just about everyone does it at some point in their life. Don't believe me? Just ask the IRS. I don't foresee by bringing up the topic of cheating in my column that I'll be able to change anything. I don't imagine it will even prevent one of you from cheating in the future. I do, however, believe it is a dialogue worth having and hope you'll humor me for a few minutes. I'm interested in your input. |
