Hands-on With "Goblins vs Gnomes" - 'Hearthstone's' First Expansion

Hands-on With

Earlier today, we reported on the announcement of Blizzard's first expansion to its wildly popular CCG Hearthstone. Dubbed Goblins vs Gnomes, this expansion focuses less on a storyline storyline (i.e. Hearthstone's 'Adventures' such as Curse of Naxxramas) and more on just adding a ton of new cards to the gameplay arena. I had the opportunity to play a few games with decks mostly comprised of a few of the new cards that will be available in Goblins vs Gnomes and, suffice to say, it's going to add some crazy new strategies.

Let There Be Life might just be the most peaceful game there is. Originally released on PC earlier this year, the simple, puzzle-like nature simulator is now on iOS and Android for £1.49 / $1.99. Your goal in the game is to nurture a tree into a thriving mass of leafy branches. The branchier your tree gets, the more shadow it'll cast on the forest floor, which is a problem for the flowers trying to grow there.

Hearthstone: Goblins vs Gnomes Expansion To Debut This December

BlizzCon 2014 for Hearthstone, meant its first expansion announcement that will bring over 120 New Cards. Goblins vs Gnomes seems to present cards with a lot of randomness, giving duels a really unforeseeable turnout.Goblins vs Gnomes throws players smack dab in the middle of a rivalry between cunning goblin engineers and their eternally-tinkering gnome counterparts. These pint-size foes don't always have the upper hand over the myriad mechanical contraptions they cook up, and the results can be unpredictable.

Among the many companies strutting their stuff at this year's Blizzcon was computer peripheral maker Rosewill. Maximum PC Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang visited the company's booth at the Anaheim Convention Center to find out what exactly they were up to and found them parading a couple of upcoming products: the all new Viper ATX mid-tower chassis and the RGM 1100 gaming mouse, the successor to the RGM 1000 laser gaming rodent.

More details about the two products can be found in the video below:

We will update you with the detailed specs and prices of both the Viper and the RGM 1100 as and when that information becomes available.

Blizzcon 2014: Turtle Beach Offers 300 Heroes of the Storm Official Headsets in Early Sale [Video]

Heroes of the Storm Official Headset from Turtle Beach

Heroes of the Storm is an upcoming MOBA title

In April, Parametric Sound Corporation's gaming audio brand Turtle Beach announced a multi-year licensing deal with Blizzard Entertainment around the gaming bellwether's upcoming freemium MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) title Heroes of the Storm. That partnership has led to the creation of the Turtle Beach Ear Force Heroes of the Storm Gaming headset, which the peripheral maker happily showed us during Blizzcon 2014.

The company didn't stop at showing off the new headset, though. Going a step further, it put up 300 units of the $80 headset up for sale at the two-day convention, a few days ahead of the official November 14 release date. Here's the video dispatch Maximum PC Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang sent us from the gaming audio company's booth at Blizzcon 2014:

So to recap, we are looking at an $80 headset with 50mm drivers, swappable speaker plates, and around-the-ear mesh cushions for noise reduction and comfort.

Blizzcon 2014: We Check Out the HP Omen Gaming Laptop at Intel's Booth [Video]

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 02:59 PM PST

HP OmenIs it what PC gamers are looking for?

It is not all fun and games at Blizzcon 2014 for Maximum PC online managing editor Jimmy Thang. He has been busy recording video of the various vendors who are on the show floor of the convention taking place in Anaheim, California. Aside from seeing products from Gigabyte, Jimmy also visited the Intel booth where he was able to see the HP Omen gaming laptop up close and personal.

Jimmy was able to talk to a rep about the HP Omen, which has been specifically designed for gaming and to handle triple-A games. The 15.6-inch laptop features an IPS touchscreen display with Full HD 1080p resolution and is powered by an Intel Core i7 4710HQ processor, contains 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU.

HP's gaming laptop was revealed last Tuesday and will weigh around 4.68 pounds, is 19.9mm thin, and features a solid aluminum chassis. The backlit keyboard can be programmed for millions of different colors and divided into zones, while the lights will pulsate along with any music that the user is listening or react to video games that are being played

The HP Omen gaming laptop will have a starting price of $1,499.

What do you think of HP's new laptop?

Blizzcon 2014: SteelSeries Showcases Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition Headset [Video]

Posted: 09 Nov 2014 02:50 PM PST

SteelSeries Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition Headset

A Siberia Elite Prism with WoW branding

With the much-anticipated release of Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion pack to World of Warcraft, just around the corner, the just-concluded Blizzcon 2014 gaming convention came as a great opportunity for gaming peripheral manufacturer SteelSeries to tout its Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition headset, and that is precisely what the company did. On Friday, our Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang stopped by the company's booth at Anaheim Convention Center to check out the headset on behalf of all you Maximum PC readers.

Besides giving some general product information, the SteelSeries rep he talked to also touted some of the new Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition headset's many improvements over the original Siberia Elite. Well, the reason that it has a number of improvements over the latter is because it is essentially the Siberia Elite Prism — the original Elite's successor — save for the World of Warcraft branding and a slightly more hefty price tag; the vanilla Siberia Elite Prism, which our sister publication TechRadar reviewed some time back, costs $200 and the model with WoW branding costs $220.

Equipped with Dolby Pro Logic IIx for virtual 7.1-channel surround sound and some extra padding for comfort and passive noise reduction, the Siberia Elite World of Warcraft Edition ships with multiple cable adapters, ensuring compatibility with a range of platforms, including PC, Mac, PS4 and mobile devices. The retractable microphone on this thing means that you won't have to worry about your social acceptability plunging to record lows while using it with a mobile device.

Blizzcon 2014: We Go Eyes-on with Lenovo Horizon 2s Tabletop AIO PC [Video]

Posted: 08 Nov 2014 09:20 PM PST

Lenovo 2s Tabletop AIO PC with Windows 8.1 and Lenovo Aura Interface

Is it a compact all-in-one PC or a massive tablet?

Over the past two days, Maximum PC Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang has been scouring the fairly busy Blizzcon 2014 show floor in Anaheim California for stuff worth writing home about. One of the many (video) postcards he has sent us features a new all-in-one (AIO) PC from Lenovo. And lest you make the mistake of thinking of it as a run-of-the-mill AIO device, let us make it clear that we're talking about an AIO PC of the portable tabletop variety.

So without further ado, here is a video of a Lenovo rep showing us the latest model in the company's Horizon range of touch-screen all-in-one computers.

Available now with either an Intel Core i5-4210U (1.7GHz-2.7GHz) or a Core i3 4030U (1.9GHz), the  Windows 8.1-running Horizon 2s has a 19.5-inch full HD display, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB hard drive, HD webcam, two USB 3.0 ports, 4-in-1 media reader, 802.11b/g/n/ac wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.0. The Li-ion battery in this 5.3-lb device, which comes with a wireless  keyboard and mouse, is said to be good enough for up to 2.5 hours of unplugged use. Best Buy currently has the Core i5 variant listed for sale at $950. If you wish to use the 0.63-inch thick Horizon 2s like a normal all-in-one PC, you will have to cough up some extra dough for the optional stand accessory that also doubles up as a charging dock.

Blizzcon 2014: Gigabyte Shows Off the New Brix Gaming PC and Top Tier X99 Motherboard

Posted: 08 Nov 2014 06:49 PM PST

X99 MotherboardIt's not all about the games and cosplay

Blizzcon isn't just a convention that revolves around all things Blizzard, such as the developer's recently announced FPS game Overwatch. Vendors and manufacturers are also there to advertise their products such as Gigabyte. Maximum PC online managing editor Jimmy Thang took the time to visit the Gigabyte booth where he got to see the new model of the Brix Gaming PC kit and check out the top tier x99 motherboard.

Revealed back in June, the Brix Gaming PC kit was revealed with the i5 processor model having been released back in September. Jimmy was able to speak to a Gigabyte representative who showed him the Brix Gaming kit that has an i7 processor and Nvidia GTX 760 GPU which hasn't been released yet. Unlike the i5 model's green color, the i7 version will come in black and is expected to be out during late November or sometime in December.

Be sure to watch the video to learn more:

Jimmy Thang also got to look at the GA-X99 Gaming G1 WIFI motherboard which was one of three new X99 chipset mobos that was announced back in August. This is the top tier mobo that features a heatsink which lights up with different modes that will let it blink to the beat of music, which it does by reading the music that is playing through a 3.5mm output jack. The lights will also pulsate on and off or can be turned off and on if you aren't into flashing lights. It also sports the LGA 2011 socket-v3 socket for Haswell-E processors and is the first generation to have DDR4 memory support.

The GA-X99 Gaming G1 WIFI is expected to sell for around $350 and is currently available online.
