General: Halloween Events: Darkfall, ArcheAge and Kings and Legends Posted: 24 Oct 2014 11:01 PM PDT The final countdown to the All Hallow's Eve is on and online game makers are celebrating with a host of seasonal events. Darkfall Unholy Wars is adding new Feats and special candy-dropping monsters, while ArcheAge and Kings and Legends are opting for new costumes, decor and a new Pumpkin Lord card, respectively. |
Posted: 24 Oct 2014 11:29 PM PDT Things just got a bit more otherworldly in Lineage II. From October 22 to November 5, Alien Researchers will be invading level 85+ hunting zones and monsters will drop Monster Research books. The L2B2 NPC is also in town. The week after, from November 5 to November 12, the L2B2 is still hanging out, but no more Monster Research drops. Finally, November 12, the L2B2 makes like a tree and leaves, taking with him the Laser Gun and Monster Research. |
General: Halloween Events: Forge of Empires, Webzen Lineup Posted: 25 Oct 2014 12:11 AM PDT Regardless of the culture of origin, seemingly all online games this year are holding some kind of Halloween event. Strategy game Forge of Empires is bringing back popular spook Jack O'Lantern October 22 until November 5. Korean company Webzen is also getting into the act with Halloween events for its games, Continent of the 9th Seal, Archlord 2, and MU Online. |

We answer that question, and break down the week's biggest news, in this week's RPG files. |

Sudden Crisis: Renamed 'Sudden Crisis' Posted: 24 Oct 2014 11:14 AM PDT In an apparent nod to ongoing threats of litigation, the Seldon Crisis game, said to be loosely based around the works of Isaac Asminov, has been rebranded "Sudden Crisis". As part of the rebranding effort, the Indiegogo project has been updated (thanks, Vrika!) to reflect the new name. According to the Sudden Crisis Facebook page, the game is largely the same, but with a new name. |

General: Selling Convenience vs. Content Posted: 23 Oct 2014 04:19 PM PDT As far as free-to-play monetization models go, there are a couple of different overarching strategies that dominate today's market. You have games like ArcheAge, which offers convenience bonuses like elevated experience gain, increased labor points, and more. You can see titles like The Lord of the Rings Online steadily offering some convenience and cosmetic items in their cash shops but doing a great deal of business selling content through quests and expansions. |
