General: Kingdom of Loathing: Bringing Stick Figures to Life Posted: 09 Aug 2011 07:21 AM PDT Kingdom of Loathing is not your run of the mill MMO: All characters and environments are created in a stick figure style. The game has been quite popular in certain segments of the MMO market and now developers are hoping to raise money to bring a comic based on Kingdom of Loathing to 'life'. But rather than keep to the 'stick figure' look of the MMO, the comic will be full color and fully illustrated. |

DeMilt gives readers an inside look at usability testing and how Carbine utilizes it to ensure that end goals are firmly in hand and will be met as development of the as-yet unnamed MMO moves forward. Carbine and NCSoft will be revealing the game for the first time during this month's GamesCom in Germany. |
Final Fantasy XIV: Guildleves and UI Receive Attention Posted: 09 Aug 2011 07:05 AM PDT In the v1.18a patch for Final Fantasy XIV, the Guildleve and Battle systems have both received significant attention. In addition, several UI changes have been implemented including allowing players to toggle whether or not a weapon shows. A new emote was also added as well as the usual list of bug fixes. |

The first entry for the week is a new blog post by Kristen Perry titled "Designing and Re-designing the Sylvari". The post goes into detail about the difficulty in finding just the right look and feel for the Sylvari while taking into account distant cousins such as the Dryads or Ents. |
Firefall: New Demos to be Shown at GamesCom & PAX Posted: 08 Aug 2011 11:18 AM PDT Fans of Firefall attending this year's GamesCom in Germany will want to check out a new demo version the Red 5 team will be showing off during the convention. The demo will feature a look at cooperative game play. The following week, attendees at PAX in Seattle, WA will get a first look at the cooperative open world that Firefall utilizes. |

General: North Korea Raising Funds Through MMO Hacking? Posted: 08 Aug 2011 09:17 AM PDT According to a report from the New York Times, North Korea's government is raising money for the cash-strapped nation through an army of young hackers tapping into the money rich MMO market. The hackers have been discovered in both Lineage and Dungeon Fighter. Funds are gained by selling accumulated "gaming points" to players looking for a fast leg up in game. |
