- Action, Accessibility and the Future of RPGs

As MMO and RPG players, it's easy for us to fall prey to tunnel vision. We read websites that focus on those interests and news directly related to our favorite genres. It's a natural but short-sighted approach to being a gamer, especially if you want any hint of where those genres are about to go. Today, we're going to look at action games and why they have more to do with the future of RPGs than anything else in years.

Project Genom recently entered its Early Access alpha on Steam. I had the opportunity to chat with Ilya Usanov, a game designer on PG, to find out how these first early days have gone and where the team is headed next. The Bethesda blog has been updated with news about the October 27th - 28th release of the Skyrim Special Edition, nearly to the day of its fifth anniversary. The Special Edition has so much newness about it that it's nearly a first-time experience all over. Console mod support, remastered visuals and art, "volumetric" lighting has been added, a new depth of field, snow and water shaders and much more have been included as well.

Wild Terra - Combat Overhaul Detailed in Latest Developer Blog

The Wild Terra Steam page has been updated with a new developer post that lays out some of the details about the forthcoming overhaul to the combat system. Movement, battle, effects, skill progression and much more will all be reworked in the coming weeks and months.

- Blizzard Officially Launches Voice Chat for All Games

Blizzard has officially launched its version of cross-game voice chat. Simply called "Blizzard Voice", the new program is accessed via the Battle.Net client where players can start channels, invite friends in by right-clicking or dragging their names into the program.

The Star Wars: The Old Republic site has been updated with a new developer blog that discusses Dark vs Light as it will appear in Knights of the Eternal Throne. In the new Galactic Command system, players will have a direct impact on the eternal war raging between Dark and Light users of the Force.

Shroud of the Avatar - 'Harvest' Zone Shines in Autumnal Glory

The Shroud of the Avatar site has been updated with a new look at the Harvest zone, a location filled with agriculture and loosely based on New England in the fall. Harvest is based on a template (Forest 01) that has had cosmetic changes to terrain, foliage and buildings to reflect an autumn theme.

Guild Wars 2 - Legendary Heavy Armor Previewed - It Changes in Combat!

The Guild Wars 2 site has a new developer blog from producer Paul Ella. In it, he reveals the first information about Legendary Armor and how the team has worked diligently to provide it with a unique look that changes between when a player is in or out of combat. Heavy armor is featured in the video to show off this fantastic addition, with cloth and leather previews to come at a later time.

Jack Pumpkinhead, an iconic character from the original book series, will be joining Oz: Broken Kingdom just in time for Halloween with tomorrow's update. Pumpkinhead can be unlocked with a lucky roll or by collecting enough Prisms in the Rainbow Road, a new game mode that challenges players to take on and defeat ever-increasingly numerous and difficult waves of monsters each week.

Revelation Online - The Gunslinger Revealed in Blog Post & Trailer
