Samsung's Original 7-inch Galaxy Tab Now $50 at Verizon Wireless

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 12:48 PM PDT

Verizon Wireless is having a fire sale on Samsung's first generation Galaxy Tab devices, presumably to make room for recently announced Galaxy Tab 2 tablets, which will be available to purchase on April 22, 2012. For those looking to save a little scratch, the first generation 7-inch Galaxy Tab is now selling for just $50 at VZW, which includes a discount for locking yourself into a 2-year service agreement with a qualifying data plan.

The full retail price for a first gen Galaxy Tab is $500, which is normally marked down to $230 with a 2-year service plan. Under the current promotion, you can save an additional $180, and that includes free shipping. What you get in return is a 7-inch Android 2.2 (Froyo) tablet with a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, 512MB RAM, 2GB of internal storage plus an additional 16GB via a preinstalled microSD card (expandable up to 32GB), 1.3MP front-facing camera, 3MP rear facing camera with autofocus and flash, 3.5mm jack, 1024x600 screen resolution, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and up to 780 minutes of usage (up to 500 hours standby).

You're required to sign up for a data plan to receive the subsidized price. Data plans run $30/month for 2GB, $50/month for 5GB, or $80/month for 10GB, which adds anywhere from $720 to $1,920 to the cost of the device over the course of two years.

On April 22, Samsung will roll out its 7-inch and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 2 devices, both of which will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and sport slightly upgraded hardware.

Raspberry Pi Serves Up First Batch of Low Cost Linux PCs

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 11:24 AM PDT

After spending a longer than expected amount of time in the oven, the first batch of Raspberry Pi systems have been served to a U.K. distributor. The credit card sized PC is a tiny and cheap system that costs $25 (Model A) or $35 (Model B), runs Linux, and can be used for things like spreadsheets, word processing, high definition video, and even some light gaming.

RS Components out of Oxford confirmed taking delivery of several Raspberry Pi systems, which will ship out to the first group of customers in order of when they registered their interest in the systems on the RS and Allied Electronics websites, the company said.

"We are delighted to have the first batch of fully compliant products in our warehouse and to be able to invite the first wave of customers who registered for a Raspberry Pi to place their orders from this initial stock," Glenn Jarrett, Head of Electronics Marketing at RS, said in a statement. "There has been a great deal of anticipation for Raspberry Pi since its launch at the end of February, and it is important that we provide a delivery guarantee to customers when they place their order."

There has been a lot of interest in Raspberry Pi systems due to their small size and ultra low cost. The Model A version ships with 256MB of onboard RAM, one USB port, Broadcom BCM2835 SoC with an ARM processor clocked at 700MHz and Videocore 4 GPU, onboard audio, HDMI output, 3.5mm jack, RCA video, and an SD card slot. The Model B version sports an extra USB port and an Ethernet port.

This week's hottest reviews on TechRadar

Panasonic TX-L32E5

The chocolate fest is over for another year, and we've been working off our Easter paunches with some hardcore product testing.

It's been a great week, too. Nothing pleases more than when we get to review genuinely excellent products, and this week it's been Panasonic's excellent new 32-inch TV and the latest HTC smartphone that have been impressing us the most.

Panasonic TX-L32E5B review

Perhaps it's the relatively small size of the Panasonic TX-L37E5B's panel that plays down its weaknesses, but we're struggling to think of a better value all-rounder for a living room than this almost immaculate 32-incher. Achieving greatness with almost all sources, and with no discernable weaknesses in the picture department, it asserts its all-round worthiness with some engaging smart TV shenanigans and reliable handling of digital files.

With profound blacks, natural colours and impressive hi-def sharpness, and a judder-free performance with Blu-ray, this TV is a worthy addition to any living room after that extra slab of quality where it counts. It also helps prove that IPS LCD panels are at their best in smaller sizes.

Acer Iconia Tab A200

Acer Iconia Tab A200 review

The biggest positive we can draw from the Acer Iconia Tab A200 is the price. Given that Apple has dropped the price of the iPad 2, it's going to become harder for Android devices to compete on cost, but regardless there are people who don't want an iPad or want to spend over £300/$350 on a tablet.

With the Iconia Tab A200, Acer is replicating some of the policies that have made its laptops increasingly popular. That is, an unremarkable chassis with a brief smattering of necessary ports and a concentration on offering decent performance at a very attractive price. Getting a 10.1-inch Tegra 2 tablet with ICS for £280/$330 is a good deal in our book, and there are alternatives from Acer if you want a more premium device.

HTC One S review

The HTC One S would have had five stars from us had it not been for the ridiculous 16GB memory cap and non-HD screen. We'd have settled for 32GB in the absence of an expansion card slot, but if you're a music lover you may be better hanging about for the yet-to-be-announced-but-we-all-know-it's-coming Samsung Galaxy S3. Or check out the HTC One X if you've shovel-sized hands.

And it really pains us to say that because we want to tell you this is one of the best phones we've used in recent years. Which it is. And all that aside, if you're not bothered about a massive storage capacity, you can't do much better than the One S. It's a beautiful handset blessed with beautiful capabilities and is already available at very palatable price points.

Nokia Lumia 900 review

If Microsoft and Nokia can tighten up the OS, beef up Marketplace selection and slap in a better camera, they'll have a real shot at dethroning one or both smartphone giants. Until then, the Lumia 900 may not be perfect, but it's plenty good enough to recommend with little hesitation for users looking ahead to The Next Big Thing.

Sony's Android Powered SmartWatch Now Shipping in the U.S.

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 07:37 AM PDT

For the Android fanatic who has everything, there's the new Xperia SmartWatch from Sony, an Android powered wristwatch that taps into your Google smartphone via Bluetooth. Why would you want to do that? Think of it as a secondary screen for your Droid or Nexus or whatever Android device you're packing in your pocket. Sony's SmartWatch vibrates in response to certain events, such as an incoming call. You can read texts and emails, and keep up with Facebook and Twitter all without ever reaching for your smartphone.

If doing such things on a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen display tethered to your wrist (or shoulder strap or belt -- the watch face detaches from the wristband) sounds appealing, then you're in luck. Previously only available in the U.K., Sony's SmartWatch is now shipping in the U.S. for $150 MSRP.

""SmartWatch is the first of many Smart Extras that seamlessly connect and expand the smartphone's reach and user experience," said Paul Hamnett, President and Head of Customer Unit, North America, Sony Mobile Communications. "Designed to break free from the single screen experience, SmartWatch provides access to live content and entertainment on the go."

Sony says its SmartWatch is dust proof and splash proof. It comes with a black rubber wristband, though you can purchase up to five additional colors (pink, white, mint, gray, and blue). It charges via USB, lasts up to 4 days, and works with Android 2.1 devices and above.

VIDEO: Upcoming Kinect Support for Skyrim Will Feature Over 200 Voice Commands

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 06:53 AM PDT

Xbox 360 gamers will soon have reason to rediscover The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda today announced plans to release a free title updated later this month that will integrate Kinect support, allowing gamers to yell out over 200 voice commands, including dragon shouts. From bartering to battling, the Kinect update adds a new dimension to Skyrim that previously didn't exist, and there will also be a handful of new functionality to go along with the voice commands, such as special map features, additional hotkey options, and the ability to sort items by name, weight, and value.

Kinect support is limited to voice commands only (boo!), representing a missed opportunity for Bethesda to turn an awesome April Fool's prank into an actual thing. So while you won't be face-planting into the coffee table and taking a wooden splinter to the knee, you will be able to issue follower commands, navigate menus, and create and load saved games using only your vocal cords.

Another missed opportunity here is for PC gamers. It appears the update will only apply to Xbox 360 gamers, which is unfortunate now that Kinect is officially available for Windows, not to mention the fact that many PC gamers already have access to a microphone, be it a headset or via a built-in mic on their laptop.

Bethesda will roll out a full list of voice commands in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out this teaser video.

Windows 8 Metro on the iPad? Splashtop Has an App for That

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 06:16 AM PDT

When is an iPad not exactly an iPad? Answer: When it's running Windows software. Turns out that if you want want to run Windows 8 with native Metro UI touch gestures on a tablet, you don't have to wait until later this year to do it, there's already an app for that. Splashtop, makers of a remote desktop application for iPad devices, released a new version that plays nice with Windows 8 Consumer Preview testbeds.

Provided you own or have access to an iPad, this is an intriguing update that can potentially offer more than a glimpse of what it will be like to use a Windows 8 tablet. From a developer standpoint, this allows them to test native Metro UI touch gestures on an iPad while coding and compiling new apps on their Windows PC.

"Since Apple's App Store generates over 80 percent of all tablet app revenue, nearly every software developer that writes apps for tablets has an iPad," noted Mark Lee, Splashtop CEO and co-founder. "With Windows 8 Metro expected to ship on over 400 million new PCs and tablets annually, these developers have high expectations for an enormous new market. Splashtop lets them turn their iPad into a development testbed to evaluate touch gestures and functionality of their app in a Windows 8 environment."

I've played with a previous version of Splashtop and was impressed with how responsive it was. There wasn't any discernible lag or irritating quirks to put up with. I haven't spent any hands-on time with the new version, but according to Splashtop, the 'Win8 Metro Testbed' enables native access to all the touch gestures such as swiping from the right to view the Charms menu, swiping down to bring up additional menus, pince to navigate, and more (see video below).

Splashtop's Win8 Metro Testbed is currently selling for a special 'launch promotion price' of $25; the regular price is $50.

Barnes & Noble's Newest Nook Glows in the Dark

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 05:52 AM PDT

Barnes & Noble is going into the weekend having launched a new eBook reader that allows you to read scary stories under the covers at night without any third party accessories. It's the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight, the first and only E-Ink based eBook reader that lets you read in the dark, B&N claims. The adjustable GlowLight is said to produce uniform light across the Nook's display, and will do so "without disturbing a sleepy spouse" the way reading with a light on does.

"To date, readers have had to compromise: either buying black-and-white E Ink reading devices to optimize their outdoor reading or color LCD devices to be able to read at night in bed with the light off. Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight is like two Readers in one," said William J. Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble. "With our new GlowLight technology and the most advanced E Ink display available, we've created the most versatile, high-utility Reader ever; as exceptional for reading in the darkest bedroom as on the brightest beach."

The obvious drawback to having an integrated night light is battery life, but remarkably, B&N claims nighttime bookworms can squeeze more than a month of reading time on a single charge, with the light on.

In addition to adding a GlowLight, B&N managed to lighten the Nook in another way. The new Nook weighs less than 7 ounces and is B&N's lightest eBook reader to date, weighing a full 5 percent lighter than the standard Nook Simple Touch. Otherwise, it's the same device with a 6-inch touchscreen, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and 2GB of internal memory (1GB for content) expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB.

The Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight is available to pre-order now for $139 (ships May 1, 2012), compared to $99 for the non-GlowLight version.

Combat Arms is preparing the Slaughterhouse with a new showcase video.

The video gives a first look at the Slaughterhouse map, coming to the game next week, on April 18. Slaughterhouse is aptly set inside a meat packing plant, and offers clan-on-clan warfare in a search-and-destroy mode. The video also hints at another upcoming content update.

The April 18 update will also introduce the Clan Ladder system, where clans can now earn ladder points and get matched up against equally ranked clans. Once the system finishes testing, an official clan battle system will begin.

Combat Arms is published by Nexon, which also publishes Dragon Nest and Sudden Attack.

New map provides perfect setting for clan versus clan combat

Nexon America has released a new video for its high-intensity online FPS "Combat Arms." The video provides the first look at a new map, Slaughterhouse, where two opposing teams try to outwit and outgun each other in search-and-destroy mode. Slaughterhouse will be added to "Combat Arms" on April 18.

Slaughterhouse, set within the bloody confines of a meat packing plant, provides players with the opportunity to put their teamwork skills to the test with clan-on-clan warfare with an explosive ending. The video released today also hints at new content coming for "Combat Arms" players later this year.

Also launching on April 18 is the first incarnation of the Clan Ladder System, where clans can acquire ladder points, rank up and get matched against opposing clans around the same rank. An official clan battle season will commence once the Clan Ladder System completes its beta period.

MMObility: Dark Legends' cash shop, Thinix, and Parallel Mafia's launch

I know this is not what you want to hear if you are a fan of Spacetime Studios and were really excited about it new title, Dark Legends, but here goes: The energy mechanic that seems to have so many players upset is really not that bad at all. See, at some point many games decided to use a limited amount of energy to fuel character actions, and once it runs out, it seems like game over. It has always been the case (ever since Farmville first made the mechanic so popular that misguided gamers thought Zynga had somehow invented it) that energy in these sorts of games refills naturally, over time, for free.

I played through Dark Legends on launch night and was able to complete an entire campaign with some energy left over. Sure, I had to pause once to refill a couple of bars (they take five minutes each to refill), but other than that, I had no issues with it. If the energy becomes an issue at later levels, I do not know.

Let's not confuse things here: The energy mechanic in Dark Legends is nothing new, it's not a scam, and it does not force players to do anything. Allow me to explain, then we're moving on to other mobile MMO news.

    ArcheAge - warrior concept art
Well, the bad news is that there's still no sign of ArcheAge coming to the western market anytime soon. The good news is that you can now treat your ears to a portion of the fantasy sandpark's soundtrack.

ArcheAge's official Korean website has made nine tracks available for your downloading pleasure, including several of the game's racial themes as well as the music from a few different in-game locales. A helpful chap on the ArcheAge Source forums has posted translations for all the track titles, and while this certainly isn't all of the music available in XLGAMES' sprawling fantasy epic, it may just tide you over for a bit.

Chinese publisher The9 restructuring, cutting staff

One of the Asian market's gaming behemoths is in a spot of financial trouble according to a story published last night by Develop.

You might remember The9 as Blizzard's former publishing partner for the Chinese version of World of Warcraft. The company also invested heavily in Red 5 Studios and its upcoming Firefall shooter, and it will be publishing Sony Online Entertainment's PlanetSide 2 in China when the MMOFPS sequel ships.

Develop reports that rumors of The9 cutting half of its workforce were exaggerated, but the firm is nonetheless downsizing. "We are optimizing operations programs and the relevant human-relations structures, and this optimization to increase the efficiency of the company is a necessary adjustment," the company said in a prepared statement.

Aeria Games launches Crystal Saga and Roll n Rock in North America

Aeria Games has been a busy little bee. The free-to-play company has just announced the release of not one, but two new browser-based MMOs to the North American market.

Crystal Saga is an open-world game built for competitive PvP. There are five different PvP modes plus an array of traditional fantasy classes like the Rogue, Priest, and Mage. The game also allows players to tame a variety of pets, unlock special soul abilities, and "equip their character with elaborate wings."

For an in-depth look at Crystal Saga, check out our impressions in Rise and Shiny.

Roll n Rock is an altogether different experience. For one thing, the title features a huge number of clothing and customization options. In fact, Aeria says that no two characters will ever look alike. For another, "players will find a fully-realized world of weddings, malls, game halls, and more," according to a company press release. Roll n Rock also boasts multiplayer puzzles, quests, guilds, crafting, and combat. More info on both titles is available via the links below.

TERA's High Elves strut their stuff in a high-octane video

      TERA
"We believe. We remember." Those are the watchwords of the High Elves of TERA, and they're not just talking about rock 'n roll, mind you. As TERA's launch approaches, En Masse is making a strong bid for the legitimacy of this race by releasing its High Elf spotlight video. It's two minutes of flips, ridiculously big weapons, and strong magic flaunted in the face of enemies everywhere.

Once a conquering nation that operated under the name of the Children of Karas, the High Elves suffered a humiliating downfall and subsequently re-emerged as a force for good. While their aid to the good people of the world is welcome, they're not quite trusted as of yet.

High Elves receive four unique racials: They can teleport to their home city, refill their mana, regenerate mana upon resurrection, and can gather alchemy resources quickly.

Check out the video after the jump and let us know if you'll be rolling a High Elf upon launch!

      Dog show!
When MMOs began, they were all about the sword and sorcery. The fantasy genre was such a big part of RPGs that the transition to MMORPGs only made sense for the magic-wielders among us.

When people got sick of fantasy, it was all about sci-fi. Several developers have branched out into other less popular genres from there, but it's no secret that the MMOFPS is settling in to make 2012 its year.

But what happens after that? What do you think will be the next genre-of-choice for MMO developers and/or players?

The MMO Report: Big news edition

        Posted: 12 Apr 2012 07:00 PM PDT

        This is madness. Just madness.
The MMO Report has some big news this week, and no, it's not about the fact that it's secretly carrying your baby. Nor is it even tied to all of the various big news that the show has this week, and there is quite a bit of that. Obviously, there's the new patch for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and there's also the first in-game footage of both World of Darkness and Defiance, but those aren't the big reveal in the news.

So what is it? Well, while we'd normally promise that there's going to be a new episode next week from G4 and Massively, this week it's not quite so clear-cut. The show is going on a brief hiatus for reasons that we'll allow the show itself to explain. So hop on past the break for more MMO news, and tune in when the hiatus ends for another episode. You can keep checking back here forlornly, however. We won't hold it against you.

Ask Massively: These are not Firefall beta impressions edition

        Posted: 12 Apr 2012 06:00 PM PDT

I do actually like my character in Firefall, though. Aside from the random mangled Spanish.
So near as I can tell from my limited time in the beta thus far, Firefall is a game in which you play a character with remarkably poor conceptions about the function of armor, especially if your character is a girl. I log in, jump around with a pair of rocket boots, and shoot things, and then my computer crashes for some reason after about 20 straight minutes of playing, so I haven't formed many other opinions. The parts I've played have been pretty satisfying, though.

But as this week's headline for Ask Massively explains, these are not actually beta impressions. Instead, this is a column covering a couple of the weird issues with our new comment system, something that I have absolutely no doubt will come up again later. If you'd like to have a question answered in a future installment of the column, send it along to ask@massively.com or leave it in the comments below. Questions may be edited slightly for clarity and/or brevity.

The Summoner's Guidebook: Upping my kill-death ratio

Those of you who have been reading WRUP know that I've been playing a lot of Kassadin lately. He's an assassin with a very high skill cap, and he's ridiculously powerful in Dominion. Kassadin is also kind of hard to play. He has a lot of strange mechanics, and his powerful tricks are somewhat unintuitive. Recently, I had a small epiphany that dramatically improved my skill. This improvement improved more than just my Kassadin game; it boosted my overall skill level with every champion in League of Legends.

Before I made this development, I was performing terribly. I ended up playing a lot of bot matches because I felt my execution with Kassadin was really awful, and every time I went back to PvP games, I felt more and more behind. Suddenly, after a string of bad decisions cost me a match, I realized something I was doing wrong and went on to begin dominating. I went from getting focused down early every fight to utterly demolishing teams and causing enemy players to second-guess fighting me 1v1 even with both of us full on life. What's the secret, you ask? I'd like to tell you, so read on!

If you're looking forward to TERA but sad about missing En Masse's demo of the fantasy MMO at last weekend's PAX East, cheer up!

The firm has just released a recap video that's almost as good as being there. It was a big week overall for TERA, and the reveals included an A-list voice cast, snippets about the launch head-start period, dungeon finder and economic tweaks, and the lush Twilight Valley region showcased at PAX.

TERA's PAX demo pitted players against wave after wave of argons and big-ass monsters, not to mention a nasty cuss called Subject 5005. Players who were able to whittle the boss's health down were then given a further challenge when 5005 transformed into an Argonomorph (yeah, we're not sure what that is either, but you can see it via the video after the cut).

Pathfinder Online developer blog outlines the path of production

Someone made the small jagged sword being stabbed into my gut! Wait, this is less cool than I had envisioned.
Everything comes from somewhere. That's one of the axioms underpinning Pathfinder Online -- almost every single object that players see will have been produced by a player. In the most recent development blog, the process for gathering and producing items is outlined, and it bears all of the detailed hallmarks of the game's other systems. This isn't a game in which players grab a pickaxe and swing at the nearest rock face for ore; instead, you construct a camp and start up an entire mining operation.

The game has a basic three-tiered structure to its non-combat operation, starting with harvesting the resource, moving on to processing and refining the items in question, and finishing with crafting a usable item. And as an outgrowth of the game's open systems, these elements work in multiple directions. Starting a camp to harvest resources, for example, can generate a lot of commotion and attract hostile monsters, necessitating that players deal with the fallout or find someone else willing to do so. No one can accuse the designers of making crafting activities a secondary goal with this degree of detail involved.

Make sure you're playing the character whom you want to receive the weapons because you can only grab these once per account! The code has unlimited uses, so everyone who wants one can use it, but do note that it will expire eventually, so snag that gift sooner rather than later. Many thanks to Spacetime Studios -- have fun!

                Free Realms: Jason Maskface
Traditionally, Friday the 13th bears the bad-luck brand. However, tomorrow, you have nothing to fret about if you play Free Realms or Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures because Sony Online Entertainment prepares to entertain its players with superstitious tomfoolery.

If you pounce around the land of Free Realms near Champ Chatty and Camp Robbie Lake, be prepared to run into Jason Maskface. This creepy fellow wants to recruit you into scaring people by turning you into a banshee, skeleton, or other graveyard element. Additionally, each participant will receive the ability to turn into a "Scaredy" black cat.

The Force is with players of CWA because all transforming holoprojectors go on sale tomorrow at 50% off. If you happen to wander around the main hall, veranda, or hanger of the Jedi Temple, don't be surprised if you or the people around you randomly turn into skeletal Clone Troopers, breaking into a dance -- it's the only way to frighten away the bad luck of Friday the 13th.

It's a good time to be in the market for a new mode of transportation, especially if you're a cash-strapped wizard or witch in Wizard101. The annual Mount-a-Palooza is back, and KingsIsle Entertainment is magically shrinking costs and teleporting in rare inventory to make as many customers as happy as possible.

From now through Sunday, April 22nd, players can snag any permanent mount in the in-game store at a whopping 60% off the list price. Some of the mounts in the store will be only available during this brief window, as KingsIsle is retiring four mounts at the end of the sale while bringing back three other previous retirees for impulse shoppers to peruse.

And if you like Wizard101 mounts, you might want to keep an eye on Massively tomorrow. Our crystal ball says that your future may look bright if you do!

Whether you've reserved one of the coveted Guild Wars 2 collector's edition or are too poor or uninterested to have done so, ArenaNet has a special treat for each and every one of you today. Continuing its blog series highlighting the collector's editions insides, ArenaNet posted three spreads (that's six pages) of the book The Making of Guild Wars 2.

The revealed pages discuss the creation of the Mesmer class (which was apparently never in doubt), the difficulty of mastering the Necromancer and Thief professions, how the game was designed, the differences between Guild Wars' and Guild Wars 2's hex mechanics, and the effort that went into producing the game's many and varied creatures.

This hardcover book is 112 pages and comes with full-color concept art, screenshots, and developer insights into the construction of the game. Earlier today we reported on ArenaNet's glimpse into the creation of the collector's edition statue.

Issue 23's coming up for the caped villains and crusaders of City of Heroes -- the only question is who will survive when it finally arrives. Titled Where Shadows Lie, the update promises to bring an end to the Praetorian War arc, which has seen the demise of both Statesman and Sister Psyche and the emergence of Emperor Cole as the greatest threat the world has ever known. Players will soon be able to force a showdown with Diabolique in a new Magisterium Incarnate Trial.

The end of the Praetorian War isn't the only thing planned for Issue 23. Mid-range players will have a new stomping ground called the Night Ward to explore. Night Ward is a level 30 through 35 zone that lies between the worlds of the living and the dead and is host to vile creatures like Drudges, Black Knights, and Animus Arcana.

Other goodies on tap include a global LFG channel for all players, an interdimensional portal system for fast travel, and a new signature story arc series, costumes, and powers for VIP players.

                      World of Tanks anniversary
Bring on the armored confetti! World of Tanks is celebrating its first anniversary, and Wargaming.net is "tankful" for the over 24 million registered players worldwide. Has the growth caused some shell-shock? "Our growth over the last year has been nothing short of amazing. A year ago, no one in the company could possibly imagine that World of Tanks would have skyrocketed like this," said Wargaming.net CEO Victor Kislyi.

So what have all these users been up to over the last 12 months? They have participated in 350 million battles, fired more than 75 billion shells (scoring 48 billion direct hits), and destroyed more than eight billion armored vehicles. On top of that, World of Tanks secured the Guinness World Record for the Most Players Online Simultaneously on One MMO Server in January 2011 with 91,311 simultaneous players. The game has even broken that record multiple times, reaching a hefty 450,000 players online at one time.

WoT has no intention of resting on its laurels; Kislyi assures us that "the game isn't slowing down anytime soon." In fact, he says, "We have massive expectations for the upcoming year, and we'll continue to drive game development that will keep our players engaged and excited."

Join in the celebration: Watch the video after the cut and then check out our one-year retrospective in next week's The Firing Line.
